    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Drives business development/sales activities related to new business opportunities and vessel chartering to maximize revenues and favorable employment rates.

    • Strengthens and manages relationships with Seaspan customers. Proactively engages clients on various aspects of their business to provide Customer profile knowledge to Seaspan and to provide tailored best-in-class customer service and response to business needs, challenges and requirements.
    • Monitors charter party obligations of company vessels.  Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with charterers while effectively identifying, communicating internally and managing risks and business interests.
    • Carries out continual risk assessment of vessel operations for potential loss-situations and recommends and assists with mitigation measures.
    • Assists with compiling factual, timely information and documents relating to commercial claims.
    • Demonstrates team work; establishes rapport and maintains effective working relationships within the office(s) and external customers.
    • Performs duties in accordance with the company Safety Management System (SMS); adheres to ISM and company standards.
    • Support and manage new business development initiatives/ projects or other duties as required.

    Job Requirements:

    • Post-secondary degree in relevant field from a recognized institution
    • Minimum three years’ experience in similar chartering or commercial management role with focus on business development/sales activities (formal sales training an asset)
    • Proven track-record in Business Development in the ship chartering business
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
    • Able to negotiate with and influence others, establish rapport and build and maintain effective working relationships
    • Must be well connected within the shipping community, credible and capable of going out into the market and growing the business.
    • Good understanding of time charter parties and commercial operations, containership industry
    • Must be able to properly analyze situations, mitigate and manage risk, and determine a suitable course of action as part of problem-solving skills

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    Seaspan is seeking a Training Superintendent (Engine) to join the team. The Training Superintendent (Engine) is responsible for delivering and developing training for the company’s engineering and electrical officers. This position works closely with the Technical Services department, Fleet Management and other members of the Training department to ensure the competence and readiness of our ship staff in engineering roles.

    Note: Training delivery may be at SCMIPL, other manning offices, online or onboard.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Delivers effective induction programs, pre-joining orientation, briefing, and in-house courses to engineering officers.
    • Improves engineering competence in the fleet through delivery of engineering and ratings training to comply with legislation and agreed customer requirements, contributes to and monitors the company’s seafarer related Competence Management System.
    • Liaises with fleet management and technical services to target training to address issues. Improves machinery breakdown and injury prevention in the fleet through effective training.                              
    • Maintains currency of knowledge in relevant topics and contributes to engineering course development.
    • Works closely with management to identify learning opportunities and develop appropriate training content to support company growth initiatives
    • Contributes to curriculum design, learning tools, and needs analysis/gap management, follow-up evaluations, and resulting curriculum improvements and deliverables
    • Monitors changes in statutory and regulatory training requirements to forecast training needs and ensure appropriate measures are implemented
    • Acts as a resource to sea staff after the training is completed. Responds to queries as needed.
    • Provides regular status reports based on statistics, metrics, ROI, and project and development results

    Requirements:  

    • Experience as a Class 1 chief engineer on containerships
    • Three years’ experience in the field of marine related training, including training design and development (may be waived for internal candidates)
    • Train the trainer course or similar
    • Thorough knowledge of good operating practices, MARPOL, SMS, ISPS, PMS
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent presentation skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

    Seaspan is seeking a Planner to join the team at our Mumbai office. The Planner is responsible for the effective staffing of assigned vessels in compliance with Flag, Class, and other mandatory or prescribed requirements as they relate to fleet personnel.  This position works with other departments to ensure competency, supports engagement and retention of sea staff and manages assigned fleet personnel group of shore employees.

    Primary Responsibilities: 

    • Works with the crewing team to ensure an appropriate scheduling of officers to assignment to company vessels considering the company requirements and availability of resources
    • Plans and oversees long term fleet planning on a defined advance planning schedule, ensures proper stagger and required overlap of senior staff
    • Develops strong working relationships with officers. Maintains a positive report with sea staff on leave and regularly updates their availability. Monitors emails and ensures timely response to communication received from vessels and officers on leave
    • Coordinates with the manning partners for availability of sea staff
    • Reports to the Personnel Superintendent on sea staff planning and recruitment needs to ensure maximum utilization and efficiencies are achieved in the deployment of sea staff
    • Ensures the vessel planning is carried out as per the matrix provided detailing company requirements regarding vessel assignment. Discusses and seeks approval sought from the Personnel Superintendent if deviations are required
    • Generates a New Hire Request form for any manpower requirements and submits this to the Personnel Superintendent for approval
    • Participates in operational meetings and planning sessions

    Requirements: 

    • Graduate (Post Graduate Diploma/Degree is preferred)
    • External candidates must have a minimum of five years’ experience in a multinational shipping company, specifically in the crewing function (or similar set up) with at least 3 years working experience in crew planning and scheduling
    • Sound organizational and planning skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
    • Proficient in Microsoft office programs

    Additional desired qualifications: 

    • Seagoing experience in management level position or Radio Officer is preferred
    • Experience in working with any crew management software, preferably Shipmate, is an asset.

    The Senior Training Superintendent oversees the training department and other superintendents with respect to navigation and ensures smooth operations in the training department.     Primary Responsibilities

    • Acts as first point of contact for all user questions and requests
    • Sets up desktops, laptops,  and smart phones in accordance with the established configurations for new users

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Tracks and interprets relevant environmental regulations, communicates information to vessels, shore staff and New Build department to ensure compliance with environmental legislation

    • Builds relationships and liaises with regulatory bodies, such as US Coast Guard. Participates in environmental industry associations and committees

    Job Requirements:

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Monitors charter party obligations of company vessels; when required, stems vessel bunker-stems, arranges owners’ agency appointments/co-ordination,
    •  Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with charterers’ post-fixture and/or operations teams while effectively managing risks and Seaspan’s business interests

    •  Monitors vessels for potential trading breaches under the charter party and insurance covers; monitors vessel performance through breach transits
    • Assists with compiling factual, timely information and documents relating to commercial claims
    • Supervision of vessel damages, and ensuring correct, timely recovery of amounts due from Charterers. Close coordination with the accounts receivable department is a requirement 

    Job Requirements: 

    • Post-secondary degree in relevant field from a recognized institution
    • Minimum five years’ experience in chartering post-fixture or operations management
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills 
    • ​Must be able to properly analyze situations, mitigate and manage risk, and determine a suitable course of action as part of problem-solving skills

The JDE Application Support Analyst provides support for the JD Edwards Enterprise One Application implementation at Seaspan. In providing such support, this individual will track issues, investigate problems and determine resolutions/or capture enough detail to escalate when required. Duties will include assisting clients with troubleshooting and problem solving, supporting upgrades and enhancements, execution of routine and non-routine support procedures, documentation, testing, and change management.

    As a member of the Finance Team, this position will work across several accounting areas. This Accounting Leader is responsible for the overall direction and management of the Financial Reporting team including reporting, consolidations, technical accounting and inventory control for both Seaspan Corporation and all of its wholly owned subsidiaries.

    This position works with the Financial Reporting and Corporate Finance teams on forecasting, treasury, and public company requirements. This position also ensures the highest level of integrity and compliance with all jurisdictional, regulatory, US GAAP and SEC requirements and provides leadership and vision to the Financial Reporting team. The position requires a self-starter with a strong financial background, attention to detail, and a strong drive for continuous improvement.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for the management of the financial affairs of the corporation and accountable for the development of all accounting and reporting. Ensure financial statements accurately present the financial position of the corporation and all transactions have been recorded and disclosed in accordance with US GAAP
    • Supports the Vice President, Accounting and Executive team on analysis, financing, investor relations, and tax functions
    • Meets regulatory reporting requirements and deadlines, and internal reporting requirements including to the board and senior management
    • Designs, develops, monitors and implements processes to enhance accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting to support corporate strategy and decision making
    • Assists with developing accounting policies & controls and ensures that all department employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Manages a team of professional accountants and communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance and provides leadership to the financial services department
    • Demonstrates strong understanding of the technical accounting issues and able to implement as part of day to day reporting
    • Provide counsel and advice to the VP, Corporate Controller, Chief Financial Officer and other senior management on effects of accounting and control rules, regulations and issues as they relate to the Corporation or to specific business decisions.
    • Monitors financial reporting and SEC developments that may be impactful to the company and executive decision making
    • Acts as a strategic business partner and supports operational managers and senior management by providing data, analysis, advice and recommendations that support the organization and decision making
    • Ensures internal controls are implemented and followed
    • Works with internal audit on continuous improvement initiatives and development of best practices
    • Oversees and manages the external auditors for the interim reviews and annual audits
    • Supports the work of the board and audit committee including preparation of board and audit committee materials
    • Identifies and takes steps to monitor and mitigate risks
    • Performs other duties as required

    YEAR ONE CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS

    • After one year, this individual should be fully integrated into the department and be viewed as a key contributor and leader of the financial services department.
    • In addition to being the Vice President, Accounting’s right hand, this individual will have developed strong rapport with other functions within the organization.
    • This individual will have successfully streamlined the month end close and reporting processes by working with both the team and internal audit on identifying process efficiencies and ensuring best practices.

    PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

    • CPA designation, preferably articled with Big Four Accounting Firm
    • Canadian and/or US public reporting experience with minimum five years in a management role
    • Strong leadership, communication, process improvement and analytical skills
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team to meet deadlines with the production of high quality, accurate work product
    • Experience with international operations and consolidation
    • Project management and/or system integration experience
    • Availability via a mobile device outside of office hours
    • Occasional international travel is required and may be on short notice
    • Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences

    SEASPAN INTERNAL AUDIT TEAM

    The Internal Audit Analyst is responsible for supporting the Company’s efforts to meet its financial controls compliance goals.  This role is responsible for updating Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) control documentation and testing for control effectiveness to support Management’s assessment of internal controls over financial reporting.  In addition, the Internal Audit Analyst provides support to various Internal Audit projects.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Ensures that SOX control documentation is updated for changes in process and controls throughout the year
    • Tests key SOX controls to support Management assessment of internal controls over financial reporting
    • Prepares audit working papers and fields queries from external auditors
    • Updates and manages flow chart documentation reflecting financial and operational processes and controls over key business processes
    • Tests financial and operational controls throughout the year to address compliance issues and identify areas for continuous improvement
    • Assists in updating and managing documentation around enterprise risk management controls 
    • Assists in preparation of Internal Audit status reports

    The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical operation of assigned vessels. The position applies knowledge of engineering, HR-management, shipping-industry regulations, commercial and legal considerations, and guides sea-staff onboard assigned vessels. The Vessel Manager also takes initiative to continuously improve the performance of assigned ships and strengthens the teamwork between ship and office.  This position may be based in Vancouver or Hong Kong.     Primary Responsibilities

    • Guides, advises, and monitors vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
    • Researches technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels
    • Prepares for scheduled dry dockings, surveys and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs
    • Manages vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with Seaspan’s Safety Management System (SMS)
    • Analyses ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charter-party terms of employment and other commercial concerns
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels
    • Visits vessels in port; may sail with Seaspan ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
    • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
    • Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution
    • Prepares budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines
    • Monitors expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget
    • Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Demonstrates commitment to Seaspan’s Maritime Resource Management values
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements

    • External candidates must have at least one year of experience as a technical superintendent  or vessel manager in a company managing handy-max sized (or larger) vessels engaged in international trading and must have a minimum of one full year in rank as a chief engineer
    • Internal candidates must have completed three contracts as a chief engineer with Seaspan
    • English language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environment
    • Strong technical knowledge
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
    • Class 1 marine engineer certificate either valid or last renewed within the previous five years
    • Degree in marine engineering or equivalent

    Additional desired qualifications:

    • Experience working with container ships
    • Education in mechanical engineering or naval architecture
    • Ship superintendence diploma
    • Previous experience with new-builds and dry-dockings preferred
