    Seaspan is seeking a Purchaser to join the team. This position is responsible for ensuring that all supplies are delivered to the vessel in a timely and cost effective manner both for assigned ships and new delivers.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Responds to requisitions received from assigned vessels for stores and supplies. Issues requests for quotes (RFQ’s) to approved vendors
    • Communicates with vendors following defined procedures to process RFQ’s and issues purchase orders using the company’s purchasing module
    • Communicates with superintendents, purchasing manager and other team members to ensure the information is shared with all affected. Plans purchases to connect the spares to vessels efficiently
    • Ensures that supplies are provided to the vessel in a timely manner to ensure cost-efficient, safe and timely operation of the vessels in accordance with company policy and practices
    • Ensures that the purchase activities for the vessels allocated are up to date at all times, properly reflected in the company’s database and that there are no pending issues
    • Creates, authorizes and reviews requisition
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements:

    • Two or more years of experience in shipping company in a purchasing role or equivalent

    • Completed graduation in any discipline (3 years university or equivalent)

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style

    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience in a ship management company is an asset.

    • Experience using purchasing software an asset

    Seaspan is seeking a Assistant Personnel Superintendent to join the team. The Assistant Personnel Superintendent manages the crewing logistics team and works with seafarers, vessels, manning partners, and port agents to ensure that all joining, off-signing activities, and communications are performed effectively and efficiently.

    This position works with the personnel superintendent and SSML Vancouver Fleet Personnel team to ensure seafarers are competent and fit for purpose and works to engage and retain seafarers.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Ensures crewing logistics team carries out seafarer and supernumerary joining and off-signing tasks in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policy (including compliance with flag state documentation and requirements) and communicates vessel joining details to manning agents
    • Ensures that crewing logistics team communicates with vessel and addresses all queries with a timely manner
    • Ensures crew management system is up to date; regularly checks seafarer data entry in company crewing software; prepares reporting on seafarers due off, director general reporting, and Protection and Indemnity (P&I) insurance
    • Regularly coordinates with planners to thoroughly plan seafarer relief and on-boarding logistics; ensures staggering and overlap of senior staff and other ranks as applicable
    • Provides updates to the personnel superintendent on crewing logistics operational status, and maintains good, timely communication; addresses concerns and grievances of ship staff on assigned vessels, and escalates them when necessary
    • Follows up and communicates P&I issues related to seafarer injuries or illness on assigned vessels; may include liaising with the accounting and other members of fleet personnel and supplying them with supporting documentation
    • Conducts pre-joining briefings and debriefings for junior officers and ratings; may also assist with selection interviews
    • Approves travel expenses and vendors bills and issues purchase orders as required
    • Conducts daily meetings with personnel officers for updates on crewing logistics operational status; communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • May act as back up when personnel superintendent is travelling or on vacation
    • Monitors expenses of the department, submits monthly variance reporting tracks against budget. Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures

    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements

    • Sailing experience as a chief officer or second engineer, or a minimum of six years of working experience in a shipping company, specifically in the crewing function (or similar industry set up)
    • Minimum two years of supervisory or management experience
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
    • Sound organizational and planning skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
    • Good interpersonal skills

  • Corporate Counsel (Contract role 14 months)

    Seaspan is seeking a Corporate Counsel to join the team. The Corporate Counsel offers Seaspan legal advice and accountability on such matters as corporate reporting, governance, multi-jurisdictional securities, structured finance, and contractual documentation (including asset purchases and sales).  This is a contract role to ideally start the beginning of September 2017 and continue to October/November of 2018.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • As part of a team, monitors that the company’s legal obligations are fulfilled particularly around debt covenants, and credit facilities. Works with internal colleagues and external counsel to negotiate and draft credit facility agreements, leasing financing agreements and other financing structures
    • Liaises with outside counsel and works with management team to obtain outside legal advice as necessary in other jurisdictions or areas of expertise
    • As part of a team, participates in acquisitions, negotiations, and raising equity; may include participating in negotiations and drafting shipbuilding contracts and ship purchase agreements, negotiating and drafting legal documents for the delivery of containerships, and overseeing and assisting external counsel with equity offerings in the USA and other jurisdictions and attending to due diligence for such offerings
    • Supports Associate Counsel in working with the Operations department on insurance, vessel registration, regulatory, environmental compliance, and procurement contracts as required; helps Operations oversee litigation and claims
    • As part of a team, prepares US Securities Commission and New York Stock Exchange filings, including annual reports, proxy materials for shareholder meetings and quarterly financial filings
    • As a part of a team, ensures proper corporate governance including preparing and delivering reports to the Board, attending Board meetings and taking minutes, preparing Board resolutions, and drafting and revising corporate policies and procedures
    • In co-operation with Finance, drafts and reviews press releases and other documents distributed to the public and the board of directors

    Requirements:

    • Be a member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia or Canadian equivalent
    • Have broad related commercial and legal experience
    • A minimum two-year call

    • Experience with public companies is an asset

    Seaspan is seeking an Application Support Analyst to join the team. The Application Support Analyst provides application support for assigned SSML applications. In providing such support, this individual will track issues, investigate problems and determine resolutions/or capture enough detail to escalate when required. Duties will included assisting clients with troubleshooting and problem solving, supporting upgrades and enhancements, execution of routine and non-routine support procedures, documentation, testing, and change management. 

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Understands company business processes as required in order to provide application support
    • Provides support for application maintenance, modification and enhancement as required through problem solving, development, testing, and documentation
    • Works with business users and application developers to identify bugs, recommend and implement enhancements
    • Tests new software versions as made available by the vendor
    • Provides identification, tracking and resolution of application problems, both on-board and within the office, on a day-to-day basis via the IT Ticketing system, including evening and weekend support
    • Document issues, observations and outcomes accurately within the IT ticket system to ensure enough information is captured to act on the ticket efficiently
    • Communicates with stakeholders (written and verbal) clearly to ensure issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently
    • Develops and executes test plans, and assembles and documents test results when required
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements

    • Degree or diploma in IT, computer science, or similar field
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in an IT role
    • Strong knowledge of systems analysis and system development life cycle theory emphasizing project management, continuous quality improvement and management information systems techniques
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
    • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to plan and organize, priority and multi-task effectively
    • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
