    The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical operation of assigned vessels. The position applies knowledge of engineering, HR-management, shipping-industry regulations, commercial and legal considerations, and guides sea-staff onboard assigned vessels. The Vessel Manager also takes initiative to continuously improve the performance of assigned ships and strengthens the teamwork between ship and office.     Job Responsibilities:

    • To be familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members either of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Guides, advises, and monitor vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
    • Researches technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels
    • Prepares for scheduled dry dockings, surveys and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs
    • Manages vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with Seaspan’s Safety Management System (SMS)Analyses ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charter-party terms of employment and other commercial concerns
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels
    • Visits vessels port; may sail with Seaspan ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
    • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
    • Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution
    • Prepares budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines
    • Monitors expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget
    • Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members

    Requirements:

    • Must have at least one year of experience as a technical superintendent in a company managing handy-max sized (or larger) vessels engaged in international trading and must have a minimum of one full year in rank as a chief engineer or have completed three contracts as a chief engineer with Seaspan
    • English language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environment
    • Strong technical knowledge
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
    • Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate either valid or last renewed within the previous five years
    • Degree in marine engineering or equivalent

  • Assistant Personnel Superintendent - CW03

    Seaspan is seeking a Assistant Personnel Superintendent to join the team. The Assistant Personnel Superintendent manages the crewing logistics team and works with seafarers, vessels, manning partners, and port agents to ensure that all joining, off-signing activities, and communications are performed effectively and efficiently.

    This position works with the personnel superintendent and SSML Vancouver Fleet Personnel team to ensure seafarers are competent and fit for purpose and works to engage and retain seafarers.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Ensures crewing logistics team carries out seafarer and supernumerary joining and off-signing tasks in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policy (including compliance with flag state documentation and requirements) and communicates vessel joining details to manning agents

    • Ensures that crewing logistics team communicates with vessel and addresses all queries with a timely manner

    • Ensures crew management system is up to date; regularly checks seafarer data entry in company crewing software; prepares reporting on seafarers due off, director general reporting, and Protection and Indemnity (P&I) insurance

    • Regularly coordinates with planners to thoroughly plan seafarer relief and on-boarding logistics; ensures staggering and overlap of senior staff and other ranks as applicable

    • Provides updates to the personnel superintendent on crewing logistics operational status, and maintains good, timely communication; addresses concerns and grievances of ship staff on assigned vessels, and escalates them when necessary

    • Follows up and communicates P&I issues related to seafarer injuries or illness on assigned vessels; may include liaising with the accounting and other members of fleet personnel and supplying them with supporting documentation

    • Conducts pre-joining briefings and debriefings for junior officers and ratings; may also assist with selection interviews

    • Approves travel expenses and vendors bills and issues purchase orders as required

    • Conducts daily meetings with personnel officers for updates on crewing logistics operational status; communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members

    • May act as back up when personnel superintendent is travelling or on vacation

    • Monitors expenses of the department, submits monthly variance reporting tracks against budget. Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures

    Requirements

    • Sailing experience as a chief officer or second engineer, or a minimum of six years of working experience in a shipping company, specifically in the crewing function (or similar industry set up)

    THE SEASPAN TEAM 

    The Director of Internal Audit is responsible for risk management activities. A significant area of responsibility will be the annual assessment of internal controls over financial reporting for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and reporting requirements. In addition, the Director of Internal Audit will work with various departments across the organization in developing and maintaining enterprise risk management processes within the organization along with identifying and implementing operational efficiencies.  

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for all activities related to SOX compliance including but not limited to: project management, scoping, planning, documentation, testing, design, coordinating with external auditors and reporting activities to senior management and the audit committee
    • Acting as Business Partner to Finance and Operations Teams to review activities and processes at a detailed level to identify redundancies, opportunities for automation and improvements in efficiency and effectiveness

    Position Description:      

    This position reports directly to the IT Service Delivery Manager and focuses on support for all Tier 1 and 2 end user support on-shore as well as on-board. Responsible for providing customer care and support services to various users experiencing technical problems and IT issues involving business applications, workplace productivity tools, desktop, laptop, telecommunications and network services. This includes providing second line support, problem tracking, diagnosis, replication, resolution, escalation and system / application support documentation development for all of Seaspan’s offices as well as its global fleet of 100+ vessels.       

    This role will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to ensure client satisfaction with both operational and project related issues.

    The IT Service Delivery Specialist also manages project support transition services and strives to achieve timely closure of project implementation issues and ensure a positive synergy exists between project and support teams as well as end users.            

    Job Responsibilities:      

    • Respond to systems, applications, hardware, and other client problems by investigating problems and taking corrective actions. Provide both telephone and desk-side second-level support for desktops, laptops, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Based Operating Systems (Microsoft Windows 10), iOS, telecommunications and suite of Seaspan’s business applications.  
    • Configure, install and update desktops, laptops and peripherals based on client service requests, computer evergreen program or as otherwise assigned. Perform desktop application installations, upgrades, and support and maintenance activities.
    • Perform preventative maintenance of systems, applications and computing equipment in area of IT Service Delivery team’s responsibility.
    • Provide operating and administration functions including user set up, configuration and management for systems and business applications. These responsibilities include:
    • Creation and termination of Network / O365 user accounts
    • Managing the rights and permissions of network/email accounts
    • Creation and termination of user accounts for business applications
    • Managing the rights and permissions of accounts for business applications
    • Creation of group permissions and rights to file directories

    Other:

    • Liaise with key contacts and IT resources on application and system issues. Communicate effectively with clients and other team members while gathering information to facilitate problem resolution.
    • Assist Systems Administration team in support of users with requirements for remote access. Assist in Data Center server backup activities, file and data management and IT disaster recovery operations.
    • Monitor and resolve opened tickets in a timely fashion, meeting or exceeding defined service levels while providing quality solutions. Document all actions and solutions within helpdesk tickets and update the technical details within operational procedures as appropriate. Ensure customer satisfaction, including taking ownership of an opened tickets and ensuring incidents are fully resolved.
    • Create and maintain support documentation and document operational processes as related to the operations of IT Service Delivery team.  Work closely with other IT staff to identify chronic problems and help document the action plan to resolve and hand over for support (e.g., user training, FAQ's, hardware fixes, software upgrades, etc.) Train peers on the resolution of common application issues.
    • Participate in pre-deployment / deployment of projects and provide support, documentation and all readiness documents in preparation for transition to production and hand off to internal support groups
    • Deliver exceptional customer service skills which include the passion to go above and beyond exceeding client expectations
    • Produce reports as required to facilitate the work deliverables, set and measure customer service targets

    Requirements:

    Position Description:         

    Provide business consulting to enterprise wide user community to help identify user needs, process improvement opportunities, and opportunities to leverage technology.  The Business Analyst is the primary liaison between the business stakeholders and the technical teams to ensure Enterprise systems are providing the functionality and operational efficiencies as expected.  This role requires a seasoned Business Analyst with extensive years of experience and will elicit requirements from business stakeholders, analyzes the requirements, recommends transformed business processes, documents input and outputs in the appropriate form, creates functional specifications, prepares detailed business cases, and guides the development and testing team to ensure delivered solutions have met the requirements specified. Activities includes requirements gathering, process analysis, in depth documentation of as-is processes and costs, design of to–be processes costs, preparation gap analysis and feasibility studies, preparation of detailed functional and technical design documentation, contributing to solution configuration, preparation and execution of test plans and provides post implementation sustainment support.     Job Responsibilities:          

    • Provides business consulting, at senior level, to internal customers and lead business requirements gathering meetings and workshops.  This includes capturing business needs and analyzing these needs to identify and document functional, non-functional and technical requirements, at a detailed level.

    • Primary liaison between the business stakeholders and the technical teams. Fosters open communications and manages client expectations.  Works closely with the IT and internal Business Partners to satisfy all business requirements. Effectively communicate complex information to a non-technical audience including presentations to functional business groups and end users and work with various stakeholders and IT steering committees.

    • Participates in cross-functional teams to identify, define, validate and document the processes and business rules, recommend process changes and define processes related to technical design requirements and information sources.

    • Develop application strategic plans and practical implementation strategies relative to business applications and business intelligence.

    • Facilitates and manages the development of system specifications through detailed analysis with the business unit, IT and vendors.

    • Manages the acceptance of applications and application enhancements via formal test processes and participates in the creation of Test Plans and Strategies.

    • Participates in the creation and execution of Change Management Strategies and Plans.

    • Acts as a subject matter expert and assists in establishing Service Level Agreements.

    • Creates RFPs and RFIs for business initiatives and IT projects.

    • Development of comprehensive business cases with cost and benefit analysis for proposed new solutions and IT projects that are used at management and executive levels for funding and scoping decisions.

    • Performs market research on emerging and available products, applications and best practice to determine implementation approaches.

    • Delivers functional, technical, design, process and other documentation as required.

    • Participates in the growth of Information Technology and the development of IT standards and methodologies.

     

    Requirements:

    • Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Business Analysis, Computer Science or related field is recommended.

    • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), or PMI-Professional in Business Analysis or similar is strongly preferred.

    • 7+ Years Information Technology Business Analysis experience supporting a broad range of technologies and enterprise systems, processes and analysis in a large complex environment.

    • 7+ Years of experience with formalized Business Analysis Methodologies and Software Development Lifecycle.

    The Corporate Reporting Manager oversees a team of accounting professionals to deliver financial services for the public company, Seaspan Corporation, and is responsible for the financial reporting and G/L integrity for multiple companies.  This position is responsible for end-to-end financial reporting process.   

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Evaluates and determines appropriate business and accounting practices and policies to report results

    • Delivers financial services for Seaspan Corporation such as public company filings (including the MD&A, 20-F, and earnings release), financial reporting to management and the board, and other accounting activities to ensure accurate financial reporting and good financial practices for the public company

    Position Description:      

    The Manager, Project Delivery will direct the analysis of enterprise-wide and/or complex client (internal or external) needs in the area of new business processes, business requirements and user acceptance testing. The position will also oversee the Project Management team for the development and implementation of new or enhanced systems.

     

    The Manager, Project Delivery will work primarily advancing business processes through the enhancement of current applications, development of new applications, or the implementation of packaged systems. The primary business areas include: Commercial Team, Vessel Operations, Human Resources and Finance.

    A solid knowledge of managing entire project portfolios including budget management, escalation management and periodic reporting is a must.

    • Owns the end-to-end tax compliance process in relation to tax obligations and reporting related to all Seaspan Corporation entities

    Seaspan is seeking a Database Administrator to join the team. Reporting to the Manager, Business Solutions, the Database Administrator is responsible for administering the maintenance and management of all databases and environments supporting all enterprise applications and systems. Additionally, this role will also be responsible for the development, testing and maintenance of data integration and migration workflows for the corporate data warehouse and other enterprise applications. This role will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to ensure client satisfaction with both operational and project related issues.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Install, administer and maintain all SQL Server instances including service packs.
    • Setup and administer all DB environments including Dev, Test, Staging and Production.
    • Create, manage and support all databases across environments including Microsoft SQL, Gupta SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL-as-a-Service as well as MySQL -as-a-service in AWS.
    • Assist with the development of a database technology consolidation strategy to limit the database technologies used at Seaspan
    • Create and manage users and assign permissions based on the level of access required.
    • Create linked servers to SQL Server and other enterprise databases.
    • Define database backup and restoration strategy.
    • Create database backups and setup automated backup schedules.
    • Restore database from backups in the event of data loss, DB failure or corruption or as per user requests.
    • Setup, create and maintain DB server farms and DB clusters for required enterprise applications to enable High-Availability as part of the IT Disaster Recovery Strategy.
    • Monitoring and Performance Tuning: physical servers, virtual machines, database and query tuning including the creation and maintenance of indexes, monitoring CPU, memory and disk usage.
    • This role will also provide business application support by administering support and optimizing middleware layers between business applications. 
    • Monitor database replication jobs for core operational business applications and troubleshoot replication issues. This includes root cause analysis and vendor escalations as need be.
    • Define and implement best practices for database administration and data integration to support the overall organization's IT strategy.
    • Troubleshoot database or IM related issues as part of day-to-day operational activities.
    • Provide DB administration and support on Capital and Operational IT projects.
    • Document all database environments, databases, processes and workflows.
    • Ensure documentation is kept up to date based on any changes to environments or instances.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum 5 year of experience working in an IT environment in a  Database Administration role.
    • Expertise in Microsoft BI and IM technology stack including MS Visio.
    • Expertise or exposure with ETL tools and EDW tools such as Snowflake is an asset.
    • Understanding of Incident and Change Management and ability to follow Seaspan’s process, procedure standards and methodologies.
    • Basic understanding of Infrastructure, Business Applications, and Service Delivery technology.
    • Working knowledge of Active Directory and related user management tasks.
    • Working in an environment requiring constant and clear communications both verbal and written
    • Working in a team environment and experience working cohesively with related IT teams
    • Basic understanding of the project management life cycle.
    • Gathering information, analyzing and providing trending analysis.
    • Proven writing skills with the ability to organize and present information in various forms such as textual, graphical and statistical. 
    • College Diploma in Computer Science, IT or MIS with emphasis on Database Administration and/or equivalent experience.
    • Professional certifications such as MSCA or MSCE in Data Platform (SQL Server) or BI.

    The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical operation of assigned vessels. The position applies knowledge of engineering, HR-management, shipping-industry regulations, commercial and legal considerations, and guides sea-staff onboard assigned vessels. The Vessel Manager also takes initiative to continuously improve the performance of assigned ships and strengthens the teamwork between ship and office.     Job Responsibilities:

    • To be familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members either of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Guides, advises, and monitor vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
    • Researches technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels
    • Prepares for scheduled dry dockings, surveys and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs
    • Manages vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with Seaspan’s Safety Management System (SMS)Analyses ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charter-party terms of employment and other commercial concerns
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels
    • Visits vessels port; may sail with Seaspan ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
    • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
    • Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution
    • Prepares budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines
    • Monitors expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget
    • Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Demonstrates commitment to Seaspan’s Maritime Resource Management values

    Requirements:

    • Must have at least one year of experience as a technical superintendent in a company managing handy-max sized (or larger) vessels engaged in international trading and must have a minimum of one full year in rank as a chief engineer or have completed three contracts as a chief engineer with Seaspan
    • English language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environment
    • Strong technical knowledge
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
    • Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate either valid or last renewed within the previous five years
    • Degree in marine engineering or equivalent

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience working with container ships
    • Education in mechanical engineering or naval architecture
    • Previous experience with new-builds and dry-dockings preferred

    Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements:

    • Regular international travel is required and may be on short notice
    • Must have mobility to conduct vessel inspections
    • Will be required to carry a mobile device and check regularly outside of office hours
    • Must maintain a home internet connection for work outside of office hour
