    Seaspan is seeking a Receivables Accountant (formerly titled as Junior Accountant Accounts Receivable) to join the team. As a member of the Financial Services Team, the Receivables Accountant participates in the timely processing and collections of receivables for both SSML and the Seaspan Corporation group of companies. 

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Completes month end processing and entries
    • Prepares and processes AR invoices in a timely manner
    • Processes cash receipts
    • Cross-reviews invoices of others prior to processing
    • Reconciles customers’ accounts and investigates discrepancies
    • Assists in reconciling the sub-ledger to the GL control account
    • Assists in collections by contacting customers directly or advising other associated departments
    • Helps prepare and maintain monthly receivables working papers for the Seaspan private group binder
    • Responsible for owners expenses – reviewing deductions, obtaining approvals, liaising with appropriate departments, allocating costs
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements

    • Diploma or degree in commerce/management/accounting or equivalent from a recognized institution
    • Minimum three years experience in accounts receivables and billings
    • General knowledge of account reconciliations including resolution of reconciling items
    • Familiarity with business systems software( such as JD Edwards and Simply Accounting)
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, and Intermediate Excel)

    Additional desired qualifications

    • Attention to detail
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
    • Enjoys working with numbers, with a high degree of accuracy and is comfortable with large spreadsheets
    • Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines

    Job demands and/or physical requirements

    • Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences
