    ROLE DESCRIPTION
    The Commercial Manager supervises daily charter operations on company-managed vessels and is a key member in successful customer delivery. Located in Hamburg, Copenhagen or London, the Commercial Manager works as a key member of our customer-facing team in Europe. 
     
    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Performs duties in accordance with the company Safety Management System (SMS); adheres to ISM and company standards
    • Demonstrates teamwork; establishes rapport and maintains effective and collaborative working relationships within the office and external customers
    • Supports European business development function, in ‘total account management’ capacity, including identification of opportunities for additional revenue streams, process efficiency improvements, vessel improvements, reporting back in on market demands for technology and advancement 
    • Works in conjunction with the European business development team to identify potential revenue generating solutions based on discussions with customers
    • Partners with other Commercial team/Business Development team members and Projects and Technology teams to deliver on and developing industry leading solutions
    • Oversees the creation of charter parties, fixture notes and addenda with the assistance of the legal department, and overall responsibility for the timely and efficient creation, and management of these documents
    • Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with charterers’ commercial, post-fixture and/or operations teams while effectively managing risks and Seaspan’s business interests
    • Proactively monitors charter party obligations of company vessels; when required, stems vessel bunker, arranges owners’ agency appointments/co-ordination
    • Responsible for monitoring vessel, port, and voyage performance KPIs
    • Carries out continual risk assessment of vessel operations for potential loss-situations and recommends and assists with mitigation measures
    • Supports and briefs vessel masters on charter party obligations as may be requested from time to time, port and voyage performance issues, including responsible for ensuring that the master understands the requirements, reporting obligations, local contacts and operational structure of the charterer 
    • Assists masters and monitors KPIS, which may include obtaining and analyzing vessel commercial reports in support of claims or other performance matters, including delays or deviations. This will involve close interaction with various internal departments such as Marine Services and Projects and Technology
    • Assists with compiling factual, timely information and documents relating to commercial claims, and internal corporate reporting. Follows up on outstanding (owing) customer amounts
    • Supervises vessel damages, and ensuring correct, timely recovery of amounts due from Charterers. Close coordination with the accounts receivable department is a requirement
    • Performs other duties as required
    REQUIREMENTS 
    Post-secondary degree in relevant field from a recognized institution
    French, German and English fluency are required
    • Minimum five years’ experience in chartering, post-fixture or operations/commercial management 
    Excellent written and spoken communication skills
    Must be able to properly analyze situations, mitigate and manage risk, and determine a suitable course of action as part of problem-solving skills
     
    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
    Able to negotiate with and influence others, establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships
    Charter party understanding is strongly preferred.

    Position Description:  

    The Executive Research Analyst provides project-based and administrative support for the CEO. This role provides a broad exposure from business operations to strategic development such as conducting research and project/task management for the CEO Office, as well as fulfilling the administrative functions such as travel and schedule management. The Executive Research Analyst is required to be a highly organized, ‘gatekeeper’ of the CEO’s time/activity management. 

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Manages project-based tasks to ensure the CEO manages project deadlines, including assisting with tracking priorities and ensuring projects are completed and followed through
    • Prepares and reviews documents, presentations, email and other correspondence on behalf of and for the CEO 
    • Supports the CEO by conducting research and analysis with an analytical mindset; works closely with other functional teams to complete ad hoc and strategic research and analyses
    • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of business activities and initiatives through the effective management of the CEO’s calendar

    • In partnership with Vancouver team, prepares Monthly and Quarterly Reporting to the Board of Directors
    • Completes speech translation and interpretation when needed
    • Drafts and sends CEO messages to the Board of Directors
    • Assists in arranging Board Meetings and other duties in partnership with the Executive Coordinator based in Vancouver
    • Works with the Executive Coordinator to monitor budget variances and expenditures as delegated

    Requirements:   

    • One to three years in a financial, consulting, equity or research analyst role, experience in managing project and supporting Senior Executives

    Position Description: 

    Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manger, the Intermediate Accountant is responsible for recording, reporting, and analyzing the financial and operational results of the Seaspan group of companies. The position contributes to working papers and participates in other projects as well. 

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Reconciles and analyzes accounts with appropriate working papers and supporting documentation
    • Prepares adjustments resulting from the accounts reconciliation and analysis
    • Processes month end adjustments 
    • Prepares and books monthly journal entries and accruals into JDE
    • Reviews journals entered by other accountants into JDE
    • Evaluates and assesses reasonableness of key general ledger accounts on a monthly basis
    • Prepares monthly working papers
    • Provides monthly variance analysis against prior periods and budget
    • May help prepare and compile reporting packages (including annual budget) for the senior management and board of directors
    • May help prepare financial statement notes and related public company disclosures
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements:

    • Minimum three to five years of general accounting experience
    • Strong knowledge of account reconciliations including resolution of reconciling items 
    • Very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

    • Experience with accounting and ERP systems, NetSuite experience is an asset

    Position Description

    The Accounting Team Lead, Fleet Operations guides, directs, and mentors the Fleet Accounting team and provides sound financial, accounting, and analytical support to the ship and shore-based Operations teams in accordance with stated company policies, practices, and procedures. This role provides leadership for a team of 4-6 members through effective goal setting, delegation, communication, and prioritization of workloads.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Acts as Subject Matter Expert in the tools and processes by the Fleet Accounting team to ensure consistent and standard outcomes
    • Acts as a strategic business partner for the Operations department and external vendors with a strong emphasis on providing exceptional customer service
    • Provides usable, relevant financial data and reporting to internal stakeholders to support decision making. Assists with new report development as required
    • Coordinates the month-end process for the Fleet Accounting Team, approves transactions prepared by the Fleet Accounting Team and reviews monthly GL reconciliations to ensure accuracy and timeliness of records.
    • Provides guidance and solutions in the resolution of operational and invoice receiving/delivery and/or processing issues
    • Reviews existing business processes and makes suggestions and/or implements improvements aligned with company Accounting policies
    • Participates in the development and integration of finance and operations processes and systems
    • Ensures compliance with Procure-to-Pay policies, procedures, and key internal controls for a U.S. publicly-traded company
    • Identifies and develops Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will assist in understanding, interpreting, and resolving performance issues and concerns
    • Ensures operational and capital expenditures are accurately recorded. Works with the Operations department to ensure the accuracy of committed costs
    • Monitors integration of data between business systems
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance, balances workload and priorities, and provides leadership and support to team members

    Requirements:

    • Degree or diploma in business/accounting from a recognized institution
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience
    • Supervisory and/or managerial experience with at least five direct team members
    • General knowledge of Procure-to-Pay function
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
    • Enjoys working with numbers, with a high degree of accuracy and is comfortable with large spreadsheets

    Position Description:

     

    The Financial Planning & Analysis function is the centre of analytical excellence to drive insightful business decisions and strategy. The FP&A Manager is responsible for leading planning and forecasting activities within FP&A and providing support to the Director, Corporate Finance and CFO. This position acts as a thought partner with key stakeholders across the business to translate strategy into executable plans and measure performance through best-in-class management reporting.  In addition, the role is focused on building the capabilities of the team though development of reporting tools, analytical models and financial planning processes to effectively scale business growth.

     

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Leads the annual strategic planning and monthly forecasting cycle in close partnership with key stakeholders (P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow)
    • Develops actionable management reporting to provide insights into performance, variances, drivers and key business trends
    • Manages the corporate financial model, including running various scenario analyses as required to evaluate overall impact on earnings, liquidity and capital structure. Builds in robust controls to ensure accuracy of results produced
    • Spearheads the design, adoption and enhancement of the planning & budgeting system, including improvements to data governance and automation
    • Manages the preparation of presentations to the board of directors and senior management
    • Supports the Treasury team in analyzing and modelling new financing (debt and equity) initiatives, including preparation of presentations of the impact/results

  • Finance Transformation Manager

    Position Description:

    The Finance Transformation Manager will work with the Atlas Corp. and its subsidiaries’ Accounting and Finance teams to scope solutions and strategies on finance business transformation. This position will also be responsible for the successful implementation and go-live of any key business transformational process and system changes. This role will also hold key responsibilities to drive through efficiencies, process improvement and implementation of systems-based approaches to work. Lastly this role will work with Business Transformation team to lead enterprise-wide key strategic transformation initiatives.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Diagnoses and identifies root causes for sub-optimal work processes, including presents issues, findings and recommends solutions identified with the root cause without compromising internal controls/SOX requirements

    Treasury Analyst

    Reporting to the Associate Manager, Treasury, the Treasury Analyst supports the processes related to corporate liquidity, cash and debt management for Atlas Corp. and Atlas subsidiaries. The position initiates daily banking transactions, prepares reports and analyses, and assists the team with completing the integration of a Treasury Management System (TMS). This position is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to grow their Treasury skills, own their responsibilities end-to-end, and enjoys a fast-paced environment.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Manages global cash for Atlas and Atlas’ subsidiaries including maintaining necessary cash levels for global locations
    • Adheres to the debt calendar and makes timely payments to its domestic and international lenders taking into account banking hours and holidays in different countries
    • Follows approval limits and proper processes in order to comply with SOX
    • Assures debt facilities are accurately reported in the TMS at all times
    • Maintains data integrity in TMS and assists with completing integration of the system
    • Processes daily bank transactions including wires from the TMS, inter-company payments, and foreign exchange transactions
    • Calculates accuracy of fees and insurance payments for debt facilities
    • Performs ad-hoc projects as needed
    • Provides vacation coverage for Treasury Analysts

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution
    • Minimum three years’ experience in finance and/or Treasury
    • Experience working with a Treasury Management System or ERP system
    • Understanding of domestic and international payment systems, foreign exchange principles, global/domestic cash management products and basic understanding of debt instruments like loans and bonds
    • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
    • Team player – able to collaborate and communicate with many stakeholder departments
    • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) – multi-lingual is an asset

    Additional Desired Qualifications

    • General knowledge of banking, accounting or Treasury
    • Previous experience in a Treasury role
    • Automation experience
    • Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines
    • Ability to work autonomously with a high level of responsibility
    • Technologically savvy: experience with Excel/PowerBI, able to optimize processes with digital solutions and think outside the box
