    Seaspan is seeking a Commercial Manager to join the team in our Hong Kong office. The Commercial Manager supervises daily operations on company-managed vessels and/or charterers. This position ensures operational functionality and performs charter-party requirements set out by owners and customers. This position will provide support to Head Office to ensure full time customer service during the east Asia work day.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Monitors charter party obligations of company vessels
    • Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with charterers while effectively managing risks and business interests
    • Responsible for monitoring vessel, port, and voyage performance KPIs
    • Carries out continual risk assessment of vessel operations for potential loss-situations and recommends and assists with mitigation measures
    • Monitors and assists of masters etc.; may obtain and analyze vessel commercial reports in support of claims etc., including delays or deviations
    • Monitors vessels for potential trading breaches under the charter party and insurance covers; monitors vessel performance through breach transits
    • Assists with compiling factual, timely information and documents relating to commercial claims
    • Demonstrates team work; establishes rapport and maintains effective working relationships within the office and external customers
    • Performs duties in accordance with the company Safety Management System (SMS); adheres to ISM and company standards
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements

    • Post-secondary degree in relevant field from a recognized institution
    • Containership sector experience is a requirement
    • Minimum three years’ experience in chartering or commercial management
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
    • Must be able to properly analyze situations, mitigate and manage risk, and determine a suitable course of action as part of problem-solving skills

    Additional desired qualifications

    • Able to negotiate with and influence others, establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships
    • Have begun or completed the Professional Qualifying Examinations with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) or is a qualified ICS member
    • Mandarin language ability is an asset

    Seaspan is seeking an Administrative Assistant to join the Office Services team in our office in Mumbai.  The Adminstrative Assistant helps with the day-to-day admistration of the office.

    Job Responsibilities :

    • Provides a professional and warm welcome to guests and visitors both in person and to callers via telephone. Responds promptly to incoming calls and directs appropriately. Addresses walk-in enquiries of seafarers looking for job opportunities with Seaspan
    • Deals with company mail on a daily basis with particular attention to invoices, confidential material and time-sensitive items. Handles incoming and outgoing couriers, works with the sender to determine the best option for delivery in terms of time and cost. Trouble shoots any issues and follows-up where needed
    • Books accommodations and transportation for visitors as needed and sea staff coming to SCMIPL for training and inductions. Communicates the arrangements in an appropriate time frame and manner 
    • Maintains company contact information, updates changes in a timely manner and schedules meetings as needed
    • Supports HR Manager to co-ordinate employee events and celebrations and supports a professional and harmonious workplace
    • Liaises with the training department to coordinate catering for the seafarers and other visitors to the office
    • Codes invoices and prepares routine correspondence. Responds to queries from employees. Provides timely response to emails sent to the department’s common email address (admin) where appropriate
    • Performs other duties and office errands as required.

    Requirements:       

    • Graduate in any stream 
    • Proficiency with MS Office and fast and accurate typing skills
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
    • Good planning and organization skills with attention to detail

    Additional Desired Qualifications:  

    • Experience in an office or administrative role in a shipping company or related industry
    • Customer service training

    Seaspan is seeking a Superintendent to join the team. The Superintendent is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical operation of assigned vessels. The position applies knowledge of engineering, HR-management, shipping-industry regulations, commercial and legal considerations, and guides sea-staff onboard assigned vessels. The Superintendent also takes initiative to continuously improve the performance of assigned ships and strengthens the teamwork between ship and office. 

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Guides, advises, and monitors vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
    • Researches technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels
    • Prepares for scheduled dry dockings, surveys and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs
    • Manages vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with Seaspan’s Safety Management System (SMS)
    • Analyses ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charter-party terms of employment and other commercial concerns
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels
    • Visits vessels in port; may sail with Seaspan ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
    • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
    • Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution
    • Prepares budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines
    • Monitors expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget
    • Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Demonstrates commitment to Seaspan’s Maritime Resource Management values
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements

    • External candidates must have at least one year of experience as a technical superintendent in a company managing handy-max sized (or larger) vessels engaged in international trading and must have a minimum of one full year in rank as a chief engineer
    • Internal candidates must have completed three contracts as a chief engineer with Seaspan
    • English language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environment
    • Strong technical knowledge
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
    • Class 1 marine engineer certificate either valid or last renewed within the previous five years
    • Degree in marine engineering or equivalent

    Additional desired qualifications:

    • Experience working with container ships
    • Education in mechanical engineering or naval architecture
    • Ship superintendence diploma
    • Previous experience with new-builds and dry-dockings preferred

    Job demands and/or physical requirements

    • Regular international travel is required and may be on short notice
    • Must have mobility to conduct vessel inspections
    • Will be required to carry a mobile device and check regularly outside of office hours 
    • Must maintain a home internet connection for work outside of office hours
