  • IT Service Delivery Specialist

    Seaspan is seeking an IT Service Delivery Specialist (Hong Kong) to join the team. The IT Service Delivery Specialist focuses on support for all Tier 1 and 2 end user support on-shore as well as on-board. Support will be provided both remotely and by ship visits at different ports globally. 

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Monitor and respond to all tickets in the IT ticket system in accordance with agreed SLA (Service Level Agreement)
    • Escalate problem ticket to Tier-3 level support – Infrastructure and Application.
    • User Support in the office and the ship
    • Provides 24x7 technical support coverage with follow-the-sun model
    • Provides user training (on-site and remote)
    • Plans and schedules IT ship visits in consultation with the IT Service Delivery Manager
    • Visit ships to resolve IT issues and audit active configurations for compliance with Enterprise standard
    • Document and present visit findings to the IT Service Delivery Manager

    Job Requirements:  

    • Degree or diploma in IT, computer science or similar 
    • At least 2-4 years of professional experience

    The Seaspan team shares a high performance culture.  Seaspan is seeking a Corporate Development Manager, APAC Operations to join the team.  The Corporate Development Manager, APAC Operations is responsible for client relationship management and corporate development activities to grow Seaspan’s current client base and market share, primarily throughout the Asia Pacific. The Corporate Development Manager, APAC Operations liaises with the team in Vancouver on the operational functionality and charter-party performance of assigned vessels to provide best-in-class customer service and value-added solutions to Seaspan customers. The role will also provide area representation for our operation and support as required.  This position can be based out of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, or Taiwan. 

     

    This position requires strong communication and negotiation skills, a broad understanding of our business and customers as well as proven sales/chartering experience to market, develop and seek new opportunities to grow our business.  This person must be capable of proactively interfacing with Seaspan's customers/market and various industry stakeholders to sell Seaspan services and demonstrate the drive and ambition to succeed in a competitive global industry.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Accountable for full customer and account management total care between Seaspan and customers and industry players in the designated geographical area of responsibility.  Drives business activities related to development and creation of new business opportunities to maximize revenues, utilization and favorable employment rates. Develop and implement strategies to provide integrated services that meet clients’ requirements and revenue/growth for the company.
    • Lead in strengthening and managing relationships with Seaspan customers through proactively engaging clients on various aspects of their business to provide Customer profile knowledge to Seaspan and to provide tailored best-in-class customer service and response to business needs, opportunities, challenges and requirements.
    • Establish network of key contacts and actively markets develops and sells Seaspan’s services to grow our client base; engages with customers, financial institutions and other key stakeholders within the marine shipping community to support the development of opportunities.
    • Manages projects tasks to ensure that APAC Operations meets project deadlines, assists with tracking priorities and ensures projects are completed and followed through.
    • Supports APAC Operations in projects and proposals by conducting research and investment analysis with an analytical mindset, such as M&A analysis, valuations, and evaluate financing proposals and support recommendations to the Board and executives
    • Build a relationship with the team in Vancouver on the operational functionality and charter-party performance of assigned vessels as well as knowledge of customer’s issues to provide best-in-class customer service and value-added solutions to Seaspan customers.
    • Lead area-centric research, monitoring and reporting of market conditions, trends and chartering rates for the industry through all appropriate means.
    • Monitor charter party obligations of company vessels and establish and maintain a positive working relationship with charterers while effectively identifying, communicating internally and managing risks and business interests.
    • Own the continual risk assessment of vessel operations within the service of respective customers for potential loss-situations and recommend and assist with mitigation measures, across operational aspects and customer employment potential changes or development.
    • Assist with compiling factual, timely information and documents relating to commercial claims (bilateral between Seaspan and customer) in terms of effective communication with customers.
    • Demonstrate team work; establish rapport and maintain effective working relationships within the Seaspan office(s) and external customers and industry participants.
    • Perform duties in accordance with the company Safety Management System (SMS); adhere to ISM and company standards.

    Professional Experience/ Qualifications

    • Post-secondary degree in relevant field from a recognized institution
    • Minimum three years’ experience in similar role with focus on business development/sales activities (formal sales training an asset)
    • Proven track-record in corporate development, preferably in the ship chartering business, with a clear capability and understanding of full account management activities across the spectrum of customer relationship management and total care.
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills

    Primary Responsibilities  

    • Develop statistical and economic models, collect and analyze data, and identify trends and economic relationships focusing on the maritime industry/market

The Financial Planning & Analysis function is the centre of analytical excellence to drive insightful business decisions and strategy.  As a member of the FP&A team, the financial analyst will participate in the execution of all financial planning and analysis activities. He/She will be responsible for partnering with the business on budgeting, forecasting, variance reporting, analysis and effectively communicating results to enhance decision making.

    • Perform the strategic planning and monthly forecasting cycle in close partnership with key stakeholders (P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow)

    • Reconciles and analyzes complex accounts with appropriate working papers and supporting documentation (eg. intercompany accounts, capitalized interest, etc.)

    The Corporate Reporting Manager oversees a team of accounting professionals to deliver financial services for the public company, Seaspan Corporation, and is responsible for the financial reporting and G/L integrity for multiple companies.  This position is responsible for end-to-end financial reporting process.   

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Evaluates and determines appropriate business and accounting practices and policies to report results

    • Delivers financial services for Seaspan Corporation such as public company filings (including the MD&A, 20-F, and earnings release), financial reporting to management and the board, and other accounting activities to ensure accurate financial reporting and good financial practices for the public company

    • Communicates with other departments to disseminate information and to plan for financial reporting activities

    The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical operation of assigned vessels. The position applies knowledge of engineering, HR-management, shipping-industry regulations, commercial and legal considerations, and guides sea-staff onboard assigned vessels.     Job Responsibilities:

    • To be familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members either of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Guides, advises, and monitor vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
    • Researches technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels
    • Prepares for scheduled dry dockings, surveys and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs
    • Manages vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with Seaspan’s Safety Management System (SMS)Analyses ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charter-party terms of employment and other commercial concerns
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels
    • Visits vessels port; may sail with Seaspan ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
    • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
    • Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution
    • Prepares budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines
    • Monitors expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget
    • Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members

    The Tax Manager is an integral part of our overall financial reporting team, and will have significant involvement in tax compliance, tax provisions, dealing with tax authorities’ information requests, including direct and indirect tax. The Tax Manager will also be required to conduct significant tax planning projects and carry out technical tax research. 
     
    Job Responsibilities:
    • Owns the end-to-end tax compliance process in relation to tax obligations and reporting related to all Seaspan Corporation entities

    • Responsible for the tax compliance activities in various jurisdictions – including US, Canadian and International Tax 

    • Manages and reviews foreign estimated income tax and extension payments

    • Reviews and prepares documentation to support the tax implications for significant tax transactions in all relevant jurisdictions 

    • Evaluates the tax effect and implications of international business initiatives, contemplated transactions and business proposals

    • Manages foreign income tax audits, non-income tax audits, Canada and U.S. tax audited related to foreign subsidiaries as required

    • Develops, documents and ensures adequate tax controls are implemented

    • Manages the tax balance sheet account review and reconciliation process

    • Develops, implements, and streamlines tax compliance processes

    • Assists with tax related audit and controversy matters

    • Drives and implements changes required to  tax compliance processes as a result of changes to tax legislation – domestic, international and indirect

    • Identify cash flow and tax benefits related tax for various business units

    • Manages the tax calendar for financial reporting and all Canada, US and international tax compliance

    Requirements:
    • Degree in Business/Accounting from a recognized institution 

    • Accounting Designation (CPA) and completion of In Depth Tax

    • Minimum 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 4 specialized in a Tax function

    • Strong working knowledge of US and International Tax 

    • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills

    The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical operation of assigned vessels. The position applies knowledge of engineering, HR-management, shipping-industry regulations, commercial and legal considerations, and guides sea-staff onboard assigned vessels. The Vessel Manager also takes initiative to continuously improve the performance of assigned ships and strengthens the teamwork between ship and office.  This is a standing posting for a Vessel Manager for future vacancies in our Vancouver & Hong Kong offices.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Guides, advises, and monitors vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
    • Researches technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels
    • Prepares for scheduled dry dockings, surveys and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs
    • Manages vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with Seaspan’s Safety Management System (SMS)
    • Analyses ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charter-party terms of employment and other commercial concerns
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels
    • Visits vessels in port; may sail with Seaspan ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
    • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
    • Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution
    • Prepares budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines
    • Monitors expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget
    • Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Demonstrates commitment to Seaspan’s Maritime Resource Management values
    • Performs other duties as required

    Reporting to the CFO, the Head of Investor Relations will architect, execute and elevate a strategic investor relations function for Seaspan Corporation, and be a senior advisor to the CFO, CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors. This hands-on leader will strive for clarity and cogency in positioning the company to important external stakeholders. This individual will engage new long-term financial partners, communicate our capital allocation principles and value constructs to buy and sell-side analysts, and be a close business partner in developing the finance organization as it expands and diversifies its asset base.

    This will primarily be an individual contributor role, and over the initial months, this leader will establish relationships with sell-side equity research analysts and buy-side analysts, and participate in concentrated investor marketing strategy that informs the investment community about the value and potential of Seaspan’s intrinsic value. This leader will have a broad understanding of the investment landscape, as well as exceptional abilities to craft a compelling investment narrative focusing on short and long-term growth potential. Superb communication skills, a high level of commercial knowledge, deep financial acumen, and strong understanding of corporate revenue drivers are key to success. The successful candidate will be adept with large and frequent capital allocation, and public equity investing. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Drive improvement and execution of a strategic, capital allocation focused, investor relations program, ensuring the investor community understands Seaspan’s capital allocation strategy.
    • Enhance external financial relations with a communication strategy that enhances Seaspan’s reputation among various constituencies.
    • Establish a comprehensive IR infrastructure, including internal processes for financial disclosure and earnings announcements; an investor relations website; investor tracking and targeting systems; competitive intelligence and analysis processes; and executive communication systems.
    • Maintain a financial tracking model that incorporates historical and expected future financials to respond to analyst questions and ensure their models accurately reflect Seaspan’s expectations.
    • Advise Seaspan’s leadership on public distribution of financial information and other material disclosures, as well as potential impacts of capital allocation decisions and business initiatives on the market and shareholders, and recommend communication strategies to disclose business actions to the investment community.
    • Along with other senior managers, provide external and internal audiences with a view of Seaspan’s performance and prospects, through shareholder meetings, meetings/conference calls with investors and analysts, web site content and other electronic means, investor days, contacts with institutions, rating agencies and trade groups, etc.
    • Serve as Seaspan’s primary spokesperson to the investor and capital markets community.
    • Report on marketplace intelligence, and advise senior leadership regarding dynamics of the investment and trading marketplaces. Conduct competitive and industry analysis.  
    • Manage investor-related materials, and work closely with financial reporting, finance and accounting on public disclosure matters, and ensure regulatory compliance.
    • With the CEO and CFO, direct the positioning of Seaspan’s financial reporting activities. Organize and participate in presentations to analysts and equity investors.
    • Independently conduct road shows and one-on-one meetings, attend investor conferences, and represent Seaspan at industry and investor events.
    • Analyze and make recommendations regarding economic/political trends and events and public attitudes that could affect investors’ perceptions about Seaspan.
    • Proactively ensure the financial press is well informed on Seaspan’s financial outlook, business strategy and future strategy and performance expectations.
    • Develop and manage a department budget.
