  • Assistant Personnel Superintendent - CW03

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Ensures crewing logistics team carries out seafarer and supernumerary joining and off-signing tasks in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policy (including compliance with flag state documentation and requirements) and communicates vessel joining details to manning agents

    • Ensures that crewing logistics team communicates with vessel and addresses all queries with a timely manner

    • Ensures crew management system is up to date; regularly checks seafarer data entry in company crewing software; prepares reporting on seafarers due off, director general reporting, and Protection and Indemnity (P&I) insurance

    • Regularly coordinates with planners to thoroughly plan seafarer relief and on-boarding logistics; ensures staggering and overlap of senior staff and other ranks as applicable

    • Provides updates to the personnel superintendent on crewing logistics operational status, and maintains good, timely communication; addresses concerns and grievances of ship staff on assigned vessels, and escalates them when necessary

    • Follows up and communicates P&I issues related to seafarer injuries or illness on assigned vessels; may include liaising with the accounting and other members of fleet personnel and supplying them with supporting documentation

    • Conducts pre-joining briefings and debriefings for junior officers and ratings; may also assist with selection interviews

    • Approves travel expenses and vendors bills and issues purchase orders as required

    • Conducts daily meetings with personnel officers for updates on crewing logistics operational status; communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members

    • May act as back up when personnel superintendent is travelling or on vacation

    • Monitors expenses of the department, submits monthly variance reporting tracks against budget. Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures

    • Communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance, and provides leadership and support to team members

    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements

    • Sailing experience as a chief officer or second engineer, or a minimum of six years of working experience in a shipping company, specifically in the crewing function (or similar industry set up)

    • Minimum two years of supervisory or management experience

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

    • Sound organizational and planning skills

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style

    • Good interpersonal skills

    Position Description:

    This position develops and directs Technical and Navigational learning. The Superintendent, Training- Dual Fuel, develops company-wide strategic training initiatives primarily for the Dual Fuel & other new building vessels, including their onboard competency development.

     

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005) and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Delivers effective induction programs, pre-joining orientation, briefing and in-house and Onboard courses for the Dual Fuel ships and other new building technologies.
    • Manages and delivers engineering, navigational & ratings training and support to comply with legislation and agreed customer requirements.
    • Leads and monitors the company’s seafarer related competence management system.
    • Serves as lead for technical & navigational and competence development for all seafarers for the dual fuel vessels primarily and other existing vessels as directed. 
    • Works closely with management to identify learning opportunities and develop appropriate training content to support company growth initiatives
    • Oversees curriculum design, learning tools, needs analysis/gap management, follow-up evaluations, resulting curriculum improvements and deliverables
    • Monitors changes in statutory and regulatory training requirements to forecast training needs and ensure appropriate measures are implemented
    • Research cost-effective training solutions and creates training guidelines for new technologies, navigational, cargo and planned maintenance software programs
    • Provides regular status reports based on statistics, metrics, ROI and project and development results
    • Performs other duties and tasks as required

    Requirements:

    • Minimum three years’ experience in the field of Marine related training, including training design and development.
    • Chief engineer experience on Dual Fuel or LNG Vessels.
    • Train the trainer course completion or similar
    • Container shipping experience
    • Thorough knowledge of good operating practices, MARPOL, SMS, ISPS, PMS
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite
    • Excellent presentation skills

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Certified lead auditor for ISO standards
    • Completion of risk management, incident investigation and root cause analysis course

    Position Description:
    As a member of the Financial Services team, the Accounts Officer – Receivables is responsible for the timely processing of charterer expense deductions and the invoicing of recoverable costs for the Seaspan group of companies. Please note this is a contractual position for 12 Months.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Processes charterer deductions for owner’s expenses in a timely manner, according to the terms outlined in charter party agreements
    - Tracks deductions, requests and reviews supporting documents, obtains approvals by liaising with appropriate Seaspan departments
    - Allocates costs to expense accounts, monitors provisions, identifies excluded costs and issues invoices to charterers where applicable
    • Prepares invoices for crew bonuses and other recoverable costs
    • Monitors aging of outstanding owners expense deductions and supports AR and Commercial Teams with the shared goal of resolving deduction issues in a timely way.
    • Reconciles GL accounts, investigates and resolves discrepancies.
    • Maintains owners expense statistics for charterers and by vessels. Example: nature of deduction, amount, frequency, accept vs rejected.
    • Maintains records of charterers supporting documents in shared drive
    • Contributes ideas and actively participates in improvements to enhance the overall efficiency of the Owners Expense process, including both technology and non-system based solutions.
    • Supports the AR Team by providing coverage for vacations, customer queries and various other tasks, as required.
     

    Requirements:
    • Diploma or degree in commerce/management/accounting or equivalent
    • 3-5 years of accounting experience
    • Knowledge of receivables functions and processes
    • Able to handle simple account reconciliations and analysis including resolution of reconciling items
    • Familiarity with business systems software i.e. NetSuite
    • Good PC skills specifically using MS Excel (intermediate level), MS Word and Adobe.

    Requirements:

    • Graduate, preferably with marine /science / technical background.
    • Computer literate with good keyboard skills (efficiency in typing) with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Well versed in MS office, especially with excel software.
    • Previous exposure to any ERP software is desirable.

    Position Description:

    Reporting to the Team Lead, Data and Analytics, the Power Apps Developer is responsible to develop and support ongoing operations, solution delivery and transformation project activities related to Power Platform (Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate), SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 (including CRM). Additionally, this role will be responsible for maintaining security and compliance standards, adhering to data governance, preparation of documentation and supporting critical initiatives pertaining to the Power Platform. This role will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to ensure client satisfaction with both operational and project-related issues.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Execute on the overall administration and support of Seaspan’s Power Platform environments, including maintaining environment health and functionality, troubleshooting issues, provisioning access as required, problem management, account management, and monitoring.
    • Maintain a deep and current understanding of end user facing cloud technologies and collaboration tools including M365, CRM Dynamics, Power Apps, Power Platform, Power BI, Dataverse and others.
    • Develop new solutions using Model driven or Canvas driven applications, as required.
    • Develop integrations between various data sources using available tools, including writing queries, triggers and stored procedures as needed.
    • Evaluate and participate in the selection of database components, including hardware, relational database management systems, ETL software, metadata management tools, and database design solutions.

    Requirements:

    • Three (3+) years of experience building and administering Power Platform components in a Microsoft environment including administering Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse.
    • Three (3+) years of experience in designing and developing M365 Power Automate (Flows) and Power Apps.
    • Three (3+) years of hands-on development experience with Dynamics 365 CRM and Power Platform.
    • In-depth hands-on knowledge of the Microsoft Dynamics platform, the entity model, security model, and web services.
    • In-depth hands-on knowledge of Canvas and Model Driven applications and Dataverse.
    • Experience with database platforms and writing SQL queries, stored procedures and triggers is preferred.

    Position Description: 

    The Human Resources Administrator provides administrative support to the Seaspan Ship Management Ltd. Human Resources department. This position works closely with other members of the HR team and provides front-line support for a number of HR functions, including general administration, recruitment, employee relations, and corporate governance.

    Job Responsibilities: 

    • Facilitates the recruitment process, including posting jobs and advertisements, screening applicants, and conducting phone interviews, responding to candidates, tracking applications, drafting offer letters, background and reference checks where applicable

    • Responsible for ensuring compliance documentation with public company SOX requirements is complete, including developing and updating job descriptions, preparing documents for audits, ensuring all compliance documentation is compete
    • Creates HR correspondence, including letters for employees e.g. employment verification, reference letters, visa support documents
    • Coordinate vessel visits for new hires with Vessel Managers. Communicate with ports, coordinate transportation, and provide safety equipment for all employees visiting the ship
    • Participate in the rotation for Reception duties

    Position Description: 

    As a member of the Financial Services team, the Senior Accountant records, reports and analyzes the financial and operating results of the Seaspan group of companies through accepted accounting practices. The Senior Accountant works closely with the Financial Reporting Analysts to prepare external and internal reporting requirements.

    Job Responsibilities: 

    • Reconciles and analyzes complex accounts with appropriate working papers and supporting documentation (eg. intercompany accounts, capitalized interest, etc.)
    • Prepares adjustments resulting from the account reconciliation and analysis
    • Prepares and books monthly journal entries and accruals
    • Reviews journals entered by other accountants
    • Evaluates & assesses reasonableness of key general ledger accounts on a monthly basis

    Requirements:

    • Minimum 4 years’ general accounting experience with exposure to AR and AP

    Position Description: 

    The Tax Manager is an integral part of our overall financial reporting team, and will have significant involvement in tax compliance, tax provisions, dealing with tax authorities’ information requests, including direct and indirect tax. The Tax Manager will also be required to support significant tax planning projects and carry out technical tax research.

    Job Responsibilities: 

    • Owns the end-to-end tax compliance process in relation to tax obligations and reporting related to all Seaspan Corporation entities
    • Responsible for the tax compliance activities in various jurisdictions – including US, UK, Canada, Hong Kong, and other international jurisdictions
    • Manages and reviews foreign estimated income tax and extension payments
    • Under the guidance of the Head of Tax, reviews and prepares documentation to support the tax implications for significant taxable transactions in all relevant jurisdictions
    • Researches and makes recommendations on the tax effect and implications of international business initiatives, contemplated transactions and business proposals
    • Manages US shareholder reporting requirements, e.g., form 8397 filings
    • Monitors and ensures compliance with Sec. 883 of the Internal Revenue Code
    • Manages foreign income tax audits
    • Assists with tax related audit and controversy matters
    • Partnering with Internal Audit, develops, documents and ensures adequate tax controls are implemented
    • Manages the tax balance sheet account review and reconciliation process
    • Develops, implements, and streamlines tax compliance processes
    • Drives and implements changes required to tax compliance processes as a result of changes to tax legislation – domestic tax, international tax, and indirect tax
    • Identify cash tax savings opportunities
    • Manages the tax calendar for financial reporting and all relevant jurisdictions
    • Manages tax planning initiatives and transfer pricing planning
    • Implements and monitors transfer plan

    Requirements: 

    • Degree in Business/Accounting from a recognized institution
    • Accounting Designation (CPA) and completion of In-Depth Tax
    • Minimum 8 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 specialized in a Tax function
    • Strong working knowledge of Canadian, US, and international tax
    • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel
    • Familiar with financial systems software

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Supports the delivery of financial services for Seaspan Corporation such as public company filings (including the MD&A and 20-F), financial reporting to management and the board, and other accounting activities to ensure accurate financial reporting and good financial practices for the public company
    • Communicates with other departments to disseminate information and to plan for financial reporting activities
    • Reviews monthly and quarterly board reports including variances against budget
    • Provides ad hoc analysis as requested by management and the board
    • Maintains the integrity of the Seaspan Group general ledgers by:
    • Reviewing and approving journal entries
    • Managing of the month-end reporting process (including coordinating the resources to prepare accruals, variance analysis, preparation and delivery of monthly reports etc.)
    • Evaluates and establishes business processes that are consistent and appropriate to meet the business and reporting requirements of the corporation
    • Facilitates and reviews month-end and year-end audit working paper
    • Works with the internal auditors on documentation of business processes and implementation of internal controls
    • Identifies new analytics and metrics to assess financial and operational performance
    • Works closely with corporate finance on budgeting, forecasting and covenants
    • Performs technical research and provides advice on accounting treatment and/or common practice for recording complex items including the implementation of new accounting standards.
    • Develops requirements for technology solutions, supports testing requirements and training programs associated with technology changes.  Oversees UAT where required.
    • Oversees the implementation of various projects including system upgrades and customization, acts as project sponsor when required
    • Manages a team of direct reports who are accounting professionals
    • Trains and guides skill and career development for direct reports
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance, and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Performs other duties as assigned   

    Requirements:

    • Post-secondary degree in business/management accounting from a recognized institution
    • Certified in a recognized professional accounting membership (CA, CGA, CMA, or CPA).
    • Minimum five years of practical experience with supervisory, business process and decision-making responsibilities
    • Working knowledge of US GAAP
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

    Position Description:

    The Finance Transformation Manager will work with the Atlas Corp. and its subsidiaries’ Accounting and Finance teams to scope solutions and strategies on finance business transformation. This position will also be responsible for the successful implementation and go-live of any key business transformational process and system changes. This role will also hold key responsibilities to drive through efficiencies, process improvement and implementation of systems-based approaches to work. Lastly this role will work with Business Transformation team to lead enterprise-wide key strategic transformation initiatives.

    This position guides and drives forward key projects to deliver a best in class Finance and Accounting functions across the Atlas group of companies.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Diagnoses and identifies root causes for sub-optimal work processes, including presents issues, findings and recommends solutions identified with the root cause without compromising internal controls/SOX requirements
    • Develops financial transformation plan, including developing reporting processes and financial operating model with the intention of optimizing our efficiencies
    • Leads or assists with the implementation of financial processes and solutions that are scalable for a large international organization, with specific focus on the cross functional process
    • Demonstrate strong business analytics skill and fluent IT literacy in proposing and executing solutions
    • Develops and implements key process framework to deliver overall efficiency improvement
    • Partners with and owns the relationships with relevant departments to deliver successful solutions to meet corporate wide strategies and requirements
    • Acts as a subject matter expert to perform analysis of/testing of solutions for feasibility, effectiveness and efficiency
    • Operates as a project management conduit to ensure timely and effective stakeholder communication, project status updates and the management of deadlines and resources, and reporting on project risks/issues and benefits realized to date
