    Seaspan is seeking a Purchaser to join the team. This position is responsible for ensuring that all supplies are delivered to the vessel in a timely and cost effective manner both for assigned ships and new deliveries.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Responds to requisitions received from assigned vessels for stores and supplies. Issues requests for quotes (RFQ’s) to approved vendors
    • Communicates with vendors following defined procedures to process RFQ’s and issues purchase orders using the company’s purchasing module
    • Communicates with superintendents, purchasing manager and other team members to ensure the information is shared with all affected. Plans purchases to connect the spares to vessels efficiently
    • Ensures that supplies are provided to the vessel in a timely manner to ensure cost-efficient, safe and timely operation of the vessels in accordance with company policy and practices
    • Ensures that the purchase activities for the vessels allocated are up to date at all times, properly reflected in the company’s database and that there are no pending issues
    • Creates, authorizes and reviews requisition for pre-delivery ship stores based on requirements for new vessel
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements:

    • Two or more years of experience in shipping company in a purchasing role or equivalent

    • Completed graduation in any discipline (3 years university or equivalent)

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style

    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience in a ship management company is an asset.

    • Experience using purchasing software an asset

    Position Description:
    The Personnel Manager is responsible for the effective staffing of assigned vessels in compliance with Flag, Class, and other mandatory or prescribed requirements as they relate to fleet personnel. This position works with other departments to ensure competency, supports engagement and retention of sea staff, and manages assigned fleet personnel group of shore employees.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS).     • Works with the Global Talent Acquisition (GTA) team to select qualified and highly competent officers (and crew) for the company’s vessels. Conducts selection interviews and advises the GTA Manager of staffing needs
    • Approves assignment of officers to vessels as recommended by the team’s planners. Oversees onboarding and sign-off of ship staff and manages any issues or exceptions to company policy regarding ship assignment
    • Develops strong working relationships with officers. Evaluates and reports on ship personnel and resolves or brings forward any disciplinary/performance issues for assigned vessels. Conducts briefings and de-briefings
    • In cooperation with the Fleet Superintendent, addresses concerns and grievances of ship staff on assigned vessels. Monitors emails and ensures timely response to communication received from vessels and officers on leave
    • Supports the Seaspan Management System and ensures compliance and that non-conformities are addressed and appropriate action taken
    • Identifies training needs of ship staff, assesses, and makes recommendations regarding promotion, and participates in Officer Forums and roadshows
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Works with Fleet Team, Training, Marine Services, Financial Reporting and other teams to ensure deliverables are met and provides guidance and support
    • Performs other duties as required.

     

    Requirements:

    • CHIEF ENGINEER with a minimum of three years’ experience sailing at that rank on deep sea vessels
    • External candidates must have a minimum of two years’ experience as a Personnel Manager or similar
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
    • Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
    • Sound organizational and planning skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style.

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Containership experience with panamax size ships
    • Familiarity with Seaspan Corporation vessels is an asset
    • Post-graduate degree or Human Resources professional designation
    • Understanding and experience with ISO Management

    Position Description

    The Regional Crewing Representative ensures responsiblity for Seaspan's crewing operations in China and seafarers located in other Southeast Asian countries (except Philippines). Applying company standards and policies, the purpose of this role is to provide guidance and advise on the selection and retention of the best officers and crew, build and maintain excellent relationships wiht appointed manning agents, be able to work independently and communicate effectively with our corporate offices in Vancouver and Mumbai.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Provides strategic HR leadership to our seafarers in China and those located in other Southeast Asian countries (except Philippines).
    • Drives key HR initiatives for the region including; competence management, progression planning, career development, advising on talent acquisition, compensation and benefits planning, performance management, and employee relations in line with company standards and policies
    • Develops and leads initiatives across regional site using company standards and policies to drive employee engagement, retention and a positive work environment
    • Provides guidance on company standards and policies in resolving labor related issues, employee illness / injury / disability claims and interpreting the collective bargaining agreements
    • Provides guidance on company standards and policies on overseeing Cadets recruitment and training program
    • Works closely with regional manning agents in Shanghai/ Beijing to achieve overall business strategy and drives these initiatives from concept to implementation in line with company standards and policies
    • Collaborates with worldwide regional offices and head office departments with respect to sharing information and implementing company policies, practices and guidelines
    • Maintains compliance with local employment legislation
    • Prepares and administers budget, forecasts expenditures and funding requirements. Analyzes and reviews financial data to develop forecasts and trends

    Requirements

    • Minimum two years sailing experience as Chief Engineer / Master
    • Minimum two years shore management experience, specifically in Crewing/Manning or Training
    • Qualifications and experience in areas such as ISM auditing, ISPS Code, and Computerized Planned Maintenance and Purchasing Systems are an asset
    • Proven leadership skills with excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict
    • Good knowledge of English language, both verbal and written, is essential

    Position Description:

    The Data Scientist thinks creatively and utilizes multiple data sources for statistical analyses and innovative algorithms to leverage new insights from historical data. He/She improves existing tools and processes by automating tasks and data evaluations using different programming languages.
    The Data Scientist improves decision-making and drives strategic business decisions through data modelling and forecasting methodologies. He/She contributes directly into strategic development areas of the company such as the Decarbonization and the Improvement of the Energy Efficiency of the Seaspan fleet of ships.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Strong ability to create, generate and leverage relevant, actionable insights based on iterative data analysis, translate data driven output into business language, and make appropriate recommendations to respective business stakeholders

    • Automates analytics and reporting tasks by developing appropriate code for refreshing results & repeatability

    • Improve existing scripts for custom, in-house built software solutions for performance and scalability, to further develop and identify opportunities to create unique insights usable by the business owners

    • Visualizes and delivers results of analyses by creating reports, infographics, and dashboards that benefit other departments within the organization

    • Works with IT to ensure data is consistent with company requirements, builds data tables and integrates with other companies’ systems where appropriate

    • Proficiency with general purpose programming language (e.g. Python) and associated libraries for scientific/computing, including various statistical and visualization packages (e.g. Pandas, Matplotlib, NumPy, SciPy)

    • Proficiency with Business Intelligence Software (e.g. PowerBI) and dashboard development

    Position Description

    Responsibilities:

    • Develops layouts and design work for newsletters, advertisements, promotional materials, website pages and social media, and other communications documents
    • Completes photography and videography work for the Atlas’ wide range of image needs, including post-production editing/adjustment
    • Manages social media initiatives, including Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and other employment-related sites (in partnership with HR)
    • Manages content for websites, working with other departments to ensure information is current and accurate
    • Acts as primary contact for internal intranet, assisting departments with posting and updates

    • Contributes to content development, copy writing, editing, and proofreading work for the newsletters, advertisements, promotional materials, social media and website pages, and other communications documents, liaising with internal stakeholders

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent
    • Minimum of two years’ experience in communications, design and/or writing/publishing (experience in a design or marketing firm supporting multiple clients preferred)

    Position Description: Reporting to the Team Lead, Data and Analytics, the Data Integration Specialist will be responsible for the modeling, mapping and execution of all activities related to Master data management and integration of data across various sources into an organized Enterprise data warehouse with an emphasis on developments using the Microsoft Power Platform. Additionally, this role will be responsible for the monitoring of data flow between databases, servers and cloud services to identify and implement the most suitable data integration architecture for the organization’s Data Warehousing needs while serving as the subject matter expert on the source and definitions of data attributes.

    Responsibilities:

    • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure that data entry, retrieval, change and delete functions meet business requirements.
    • Take lead in the design, documentation and maintenance of company data integrations involving a variety of data sources and platforms such as the Data Warehouse and Data Mart.
    • Leverage technical expertise to design, implement and support Power Platform based solutions, especially Power Apps.
    • Identify and troubleshoot data related issues and work to ensure a high level of data availability.
    • Develop relational database objects as required.
    • Identify inefficiencies in existing data integrations and develop solutions to overcome them.
    • Develop and maintain integrations between various data sources, including the ability to write queries, triggers and stored procedures.
    • Validate the quality and validity of data as it flows between systems.

    Requirements:

    • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in an IT environment in an enterprise-level data integrations role.
    • A minimum of 3 years of experience developing solutions within Power Platform (Power Apps Portals, Canvas and Model Driven Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) and Common Data Service.
    • Expertise with database platforms and writing SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
    • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
    • Good knowledge of Master Data Management and related concepts.

    Position Description: Reporting to the Team Lead, Data and Analytics, the ETL Developer will be responsible for the design, development and administration/support of existing and new Extract Load Transform (ETL) integrations while following business, architectural, and service requirements. This position will have a strong understanding of Data Warehouse and Database related concepts with the ability to read and write complex SQL queries as required.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and develop ETL integrations using Talend or via SQL queries as required.
    • Monitor and support existing data pipelines to ensure data loads are functioning without errors.
    • Investigate data to identify potential issues within ETL pipelines and provide solutions.
    • Ensure that the data architecture is scalable and maintainable.
    • Understand the structure and design of our Data Warehouse and design integrations to match.
    • Provide support as needed for database related issues, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
    • Proactively look for opportunities to enhance existing processes and automate tasks.
    • Prepare documentation related to data integrations and pipelines, including database jobs used for ETL.

    Requirements:

    • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in an IT environment in an enterprise-level ETL Developer role.
    • Excellent knowledge of at least one enterprise ETL tool (IBM Data Stage Informatica, Talend, etc.). Knowledge of Talend is preferred.
    • A minimum of 4 years of SQL knowledge (script writing, query performance tuning, index maintenance, basic DB administration etc.) as well as an understanding of database structure.

    Position Description

    The Project Marine Engineer and Naval Architect assists with fleet engineering and technology development, plan approval, fleet technical support, as well as rule and regulatory research. This position participates in project work requiring marine engineering and/or naval architect background.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the day-to-day management and execution of assigned engineering projects, and for the planning, control and reporting of it.
    • Provides project management and support for fleet modification and retrofit programs, such as Vessel hull efficiency measures or Engine Efficiency upgrades
    • Supports technical research into solutions to comply with upcoming environmental regulations and liaises with cross functional departments on the implementation of these solutions onto vessels and the wider Seaspan organization.
    • Research technical issues relating to the current fleet, new builds, and future vessels and performs functional assessment of the ships’ equipment.
    • Responds to technical and general queries and deals with issues regarding day-to-day operations of all the vessels in the Seaspan fleet; possesses good written and verbal communication skills to communicate technical ideas successfully to others
    • Reads technical reports, drawings and calculations and is familiar with resistance and propulsion including model tests, vessel structural maintenance and design, weight estimates, intact and damaged stability calculations, optimization of vessel performance for a container ship and hull form design
    • Assists with technical research into solutions to comply with upcoming environmental regulations and liaises with the stakeholders on the implementation of these solutions onto vessels and the wider Seaspan organization.
    • Assists with new building specification development, plan approval, vessel construction supervision, manufacturer shop tests, manufacturer research and selection, guarantee claims, professional consultancy to vessel operations and attends model testing
    • Maintains current knowledge of technology changes. Schedules meetings with third party vendors, attends conferences and other offsite workshops that are relevant to technology and fleet performance management. Monitors various publications to keep current with industry trends and concerns.
    • Assists with the development of quotation requests, contracts, and specifications.
    • Monitors the products and performance of manufacturers that provide equipment and services to our fleet, as well as the publications to keep current with industry trends and concerns.

    Requirements

    • BSc or BEng or higher in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering
    • Minimum 5 years of naval architecture / marine engineering experience
    • Minimum 3 years shore management experience including experience in project management
    • Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Fusion
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style, and effective personal presentation style.

    Additional Desired Qualifications

    • Shipboard work experience in a technical role would be an asset
    • Experience working with container ships
    • Professional recognition as a Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer

    Job Demands and/or Physical Requirements

    • Regular international travel is required and may be on short notice
    • Periodic overtime to meet deadlines or accommodate time zone differences
    • Will be required to carry a mobile phone, check regularly outside of office hours and make himself/herself available
    • Must have mobility to conduct vessel inspections
