    The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical operation of assigned vessels. The position applies knowledge of engineering, HR-management, shipping-industry regulations, commercial and legal considerations, and guides sea-staff onboard assigned vessels. The Vessel Manager also takes initiative to continuously improve the performance of assigned ships and strengthens the teamwork between ship and office. This is a standing posting for a Vessel Manager for future vacancies in our Hong Kong office.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • To be familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members either of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Guides, advises, and monitor vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
    • Researches technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels
    • Prepares for scheduled dry dockings, surveys and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs
    • Manages vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with Seaspan’s Safety Management System (SMS)Analyses ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charter-party terms of employment and other commercial concerns
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels
    • Visits vessels port; may sail with Seaspan ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
    • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
    • Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution
    • Prepares budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines
    • Monitors expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget
    • Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Demonstrates commitment to Seaspan’s Maritime Resource Management values
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements:

    • Must have at least one year of experience as a technical superintendent in a company managing handy-max sized (or larger) vessels engaged in international trading and must have a minimum of one full year in rank as a chief engineer or have completed three contracts as a chief engineer with Seaspan
    • English language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environment
    • Strong technical knowledge
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
    • Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate either valid or last renewed within the previous five years
    • Degree in marine engineering or equivalent

As a member of the Special Projects Group, the Investment Analyst will primarily focus on research and analysis of certain markets and/or sectors as they relate to international trade flows of various cargo types (i.e. containers, manufactured goods, aggregate cargo, LNG/tankers or internal strategic projects. He/she will also undertake financial research and forecasting relating to prospective investment opportunities. The position will require creative thinking, independent work, and the candidate must be able to communicate effectively in English.     Primary Responsibilities  

    • Develop statistical and economic models, collect and analyze data, and identify trends and economic relationships focusing on the maritime industry/market
    • Prepare economic reports, tables, charts and forecasts based on his findings, which will be presented to various stakeholders, including the executive management team and board of directors of Seaspan, as well as potential third party stakeholders including minority shareholders and financing counterparties
    • Provide financial evaluation of project investment opportunities including review of project & company documents and financing agreements
    • Extensive financial modeling including sensitivity analysis to support potential investment opportunities
    • Create investment memoranda to support potential investment opportunities, which include economic analysis and market studies  
    • Examine and assess economic and market trends, earnings profiles, and risk/return characteristics to determine suitable investment strategies & sectors to focus on
    • Participate in due diligence and negotiations on behalf of Seaspan for new investments dealing with purchase agreements, partnership arrangements, financing arrangements, and other contracts which impact forecasted return

    The Corporate Reporting Manager oversees a team of accounting professionals to deliver financial services for the public company, Seaspan Corporation, and is responsible for the financial reporting and G/L integrity for multiple companies.  This position is responsible for end-to-end financial reporting process.   

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Evaluates and determines appropriate business and accounting practices and policies to report results

    • Delivers financial services for Seaspan Corporation such as public company filings (including the MD&A, 20-F, and earnings release), financial reporting to management and the board, and other accounting activities to ensure accurate financial reporting and good financial practices for the public company

    • Communicates with other departments to disseminate information and to plan for financial reporting activities

    The Tax Manager is an integral part of our overall financial reporting team, and will have significant involvement in tax compliance, tax provisions, dealing with tax authorities’ information requests, including direct and indirect tax. The Tax Manager will also be required to conduct significant tax planning projects and carry out technical tax research. 
     
    Job Responsibilities:
    • Owns the end-to-end tax compliance process in relation to tax obligations and reporting related to all Seaspan Corporation entities

    • Responsible for the tax compliance activities in various jurisdictions – including US, Canadian and International Tax 

    • Manages and reviews foreign estimated income tax and extension payments

    • Reviews and prepares documentation to support the tax implications for significant tax transactions in all relevant jurisdictions 

    • Evaluates the tax effect and implications of international business initiatives, contemplated transactions and business proposals

    • Manages foreign income tax audits, non-income tax audits, Canada and U.S. tax audited related to foreign subsidiaries as required

    • Develops, documents and ensures adequate tax controls are implemented

    Seaspan is seeking a Database Administrator to join the team. Reporting to the Manager, Business Solutions, the Database Administrator is responsible for administering the maintenance and management of all databases and environments supporting all enterprise applications and systems. Additionally, this role will also be responsible for the development, testing and maintenance of data integration and migration workflows for the corporate data warehouse and other enterprise applications. This role will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to ensure client satisfaction with both operational and project related issues.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Install, administer and maintain all SQL Server instances including service packs.
    • Setup and administer all DB environments including Dev, Test, Staging and Production.
    • Create, manage and support all databases across environments including Microsoft SQL, Gupta SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Azure SQL-as-a-Service as well as MySQL -as-a-service in AWS.
    • Assist with the development of a database technology consolidation strategy to limit the database technologies used at Seaspan
    • Create and manage users and assign permissions based on the level of access required.
    • Create linked servers to SQL Server and other enterprise databases.
    • Define database backup and restoration strategy.
    • Create database backups and setup automated backup schedules.
    • Restore database from backups in the event of data loss, DB failure or corruption or as per user requests.
    • Setup, create and maintain DB server farms and DB clusters for required enterprise applications to enable High-Availability as part of the IT Disaster Recovery Strategy.
    • Monitoring and Performance Tuning: physical servers, virtual machines, database and query tuning including the creation and maintenance of indexes, monitoring CPU, memory and disk usage.
    • This role will also provide business application support by administering support and optimizing middleware layers between business applications. 
    • Monitor database replication jobs for core operational business applications and troubleshoot replication issues. This includes root cause analysis and vendor escalations as need be.
    • Define and implement best practices for database administration and data integration to support the overall organization's IT strategy.
    • Troubleshoot database or IM related issues as part of day-to-day operational activities.
    • Provide DB administration and support on Capital and Operational IT projects.
    • Document all database environments, databases, processes and workflows.
    • Ensure documentation is kept up to date based on any changes to environments or instances.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum 5 year of experience working in an IT environment in a  Database Administration role.
    • Expertise in Microsoft BI and IM technology stack including MS Visio.
    • Expertise or exposure with ETL tools and EDW tools such as Snowflake is an asset.
    • Understanding of Incident and Change Management and ability to follow Seaspan’s process, procedure standards and methodologies.

    Seaspan is looking for a Manager, Business Solutions to join the team. This role will provide leadership to the BI/Analytics Team, the Data Team and the Business Application Support Team. This newly created position plays a pivotal role in in embarking on Seaspan’s journey of Digital Transformation. This role will jump off the foundational initiatives that are now underway to create data platforms, data governance and an Analytics/BI framework to support organizational growth. This position is responsible for the management of daily activities of the Data Team which is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of Seaspan’s enterprise data warehouse systems and related services (i.e. ETL, data marts).

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Leading a team of BI Developers, Data Scientists and Analysts partner with all departments to  deliver ‘fit for use’ business intelligence solutions to enable the business to achieve their strategic, tactical & operational goals and objectives.
    • Oversees activities pertaining to support & enhancements of critical industry specific business services and applications.
    • In leading the BI/Analytics Team, this role will establish and evolve BI / Report Governance within Seaspan.
    •  Act as a strategic partner who can lead discussions and influence decisions with business leaders and their teams to determine how business intelligence tools/solutions can accelerate business strategies.
    • Consult with business leaders to shape requirements to deliver actionable insights.
    • Architect, design, implement and monitor ‘best practice’ Business Intelligence framework, Enterprise Data Warehouse platforms, including but not limited to ETL processes as well as middle ware layers between transactional systems.
    • Triage and assess complex adhoc and new requests, prioritize and assign to team members.
    • Shape and accelerate the execution of the evolving business intelligence roadmap/strategy.
    • Lead the design, development, testing, adoption, and support of all BI strategic projects.
    • As the leader of the Data team, deliver a “One Version of the Truth” approach to all data used within the organization keeping it simple and consistent across all divisions.
    • Lead the Business Application Support team by developing and enhancing business application support models for various SAAS and on-prem business application eco-systems (incl. roles and responsibilities for application support levels 1,2,3 etc.).
    • Provide leadership and guidance for tactical and strategic business application road maps in alignment with Seaspan’s Enterprise Architecture stance and principles.
    • Sustainment and scalability planning for business applications.
    • Development of cost-benefit, ROI and TCO business cases for optimal utilization of resources.
    • Collaboration with the IT Infrastructure teams where business applications are hosted in the cloud.
    • As a member of the IT Management team, the Manager, Business Solutions will represent Business Solutions team in various governance / steering committees pertaining to core suites of business services, as well as other business applications.
    •  Lead and participate in major contract negotiations (custom build agreements, support agreements).
    • Contribute to the development of the Annual Operating Plan and Capital Plan.
    • Manage the budget to ensure effective use of resources and ensure team is operating within assigned resources.
    • Manage Application Support team, including resource allocation and provide mentorship and guidance to team members to support their career development plan.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • BS in Programming, Application Development
    • In-depth, intermediate experience in programming / development
    • 4+ years’ experience in people management
    • 5+ years’ advanced, demonstrable knowledge and experience through the various methods/approaches and governances to application development (i.e. waterfall / agile / dev ops)
    • ITIL Foundations, PMP HDI Support Center Manager

    The Assistant Controller is responsible for the financial and operational reporting of Seaspan Corporation and its wholly owned subsidiaries. This position works with the leadership team, department heads and the financial planning & analysis team in the area of forecasting, operational and financial reporting and ensures the highest level of integrity and compliance with all the applicable jurisdictional, regulatory and US GAAP requirements.


    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for the management of the Corporation’s financial affairs including accounting and reporting
    • Meets regulatory reporting requirements and deadlines, and internal reporting requirements including to the board and senior management
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the technical issues facing a corporation that operates in several international jurisdictions
    • Under the direction of the accounting leadership team, operates as a partner to the business by providing them with excellent reporting and analysis that supports effective decision making throughout the organization
    • Ensures effective internal controls are implemented, updated, and followed; also ensures the accuracy of information and safeguards company’s assets
    • Works with auditors to ensure financial statements fairly present the financial position of the corporation and all transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and statutory requirements
    • Monitors department expenses, submits monthly variance reporting tracks against budget
    • Monitors, and implements processes to enhance accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting to support corporate strategy and decision making
    • Assists with developing and implementing controls and ensures that all department employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Manages a team and communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance and provides leadership to the financial services department
    • Works with internal audit on continuous improvement initiatives and development of best practices
    • Identifies and takes steps to monitor and mitigate risks

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business/commerce or MBA
    • CPA designation
    • Minimum five years of experience in an accounting management role

    • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team to meet deadlines with the production of high quality, accurate work product

    The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical operation of assigned vessels. The position applies knowledge of engineering, HR-management, shipping-industry regulations, commercial and legal considerations, and guides sea-staff onboard assigned vessels. The Vessel Manager also takes initiative to continuously improve the performance of assigned ships and strengthens the teamwork between ship and office.     Job Responsibilities:

    • To be familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members either of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Guides, advises, and monitor vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenance
    • Researches technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vessels
    • Prepares for scheduled dry dockings, surveys and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs
    • Manages vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with Seaspan’s Safety Management System (SMS)Analyses ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charter-party terms of employment and other commercial concerns
    • Ensures compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vessels
    • Visits vessels port; may sail with Seaspan ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical way
    • Monitors function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality-assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issues
    • Takes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolution
    • Prepares budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines
    • Monitors expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budget
    • Ensures that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and procedures
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Demonstrates commitment to Seaspan’s Maritime Resource Management values

    Requirements:

    • Must have at least one year of experience as a technical superintendent in a company managing handy-max sized (or larger) vessels engaged in international trading and must have a minimum of one full year in rank as a chief engineer or have completed three contracts as a chief engineer with Seaspan
    • English language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environment
    • Strong technical knowledge
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
    • Class 1 Marine Engineer Certificate either valid or last renewed within the previous five years
    • Degree in marine engineering or equivalent

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience working with container ships
    • Education in mechanical engineering or naval architecture
    • Previous experience with new-builds and dry-dockings preferred
