    Position Description:
    The Crewing Assistant is responsible for preparing and filing seafarer documents and for providing a variety of administrative and office support related duties.

    Job Responsibilities:

    •  Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Works with assistant personnel officer to prepare all joining documents (such as Seafarers Employment Agreement (SEA) and letter to master)
    • Prepares courier packages for manning agents which contain all joining documents
    • Liaises with manning agents to ensure the joining documents are completed within timelines and that copies of confirmation are received
    • Confirms that all seafarer documents are scanned and uploaded into the company’s crew management software
    • Ensures all director general shipping reports are prepared and uploaded on time on the director general website
    • Acts as a back-up for the assistant personnel officer and helps with team deliverables
    • Performs out-of-office duties for visa application, banking and other crew-related procedures
    • Performs other duties as required

    Position Description:

    This position is responsible for ensuring that all supplies are delivered to the vessel in a timely and cost effective manner both for assigned ships and new deliveries.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Responds to requisitions received from assigned vessels for stores and supplies. Issues Requests for Quotes (RFQ’s) to approved vendor
    • Communicates with vendors following defined procedures to process requests for quotes and issue purchase orders using the company’s purchasing module
    • Communicates with Superintendents, Purchasing Manager, and other team members to ensure the information is shared with all affected. Liaises with the Logistics Coordinator to connect the spares to the vessel efficiently
    • Ensures that supplies are supplied to the vessel in a timely manner. The goal is to ensure cost-efficient, safe, and timely operation of the vessels in accordance with company policy and practices
    • Ensures that the purchase activities for the vessels allocated are up to date at all times, properly reflected in the company’s database and there are no pending issues
    • Creates, authorizes, and reviews requisition for pre-delivery ship stores based on requirements for new vessel
    • Performs other duties as required.

     

    Requirements:

    • Two or more years of experience in shipping company in a purchasing role or equivalent
    • Completed graduation in any discipline (3 years university or equivalent)
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
    • Ability to prioritize and multi-task

    Position Description:
    This position develops and directs navigational and technical learning. The Superintendent, Training- Nautical develops company-wide strategic training initiatives, including competence development.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • Delivers effective induction programs, Conducts Pre-joining Training in the latest company 'Incidents', SMS, PSC, MARPOL, COSWP, Security, Navigation, pre-joining orientation, briefing, and in-house courses
    • Manages and delivers navigational and ratings training and support to comply with legislation and agreed customer requirements,
    • Monitors the company’s seafarer related Competence Management System. Assesses the Company’s Career Development Initiative (CDI) / Command Partnership Scheme and subsequently facilitates oral examinations (as applicable) and provides recommendations to CDO for promotions
    • Supports navigational and technical competence development for all seafarers. Works closely with management to identify learning opportunities and develop appropriate training content to support company growth initiatives.
    • Conduct Navigational Simulator courses and assessments as per company and industry guidelines.
    • Oversees curriculum design, learning tools, and needs analysis/gap management, follow-up evaluations, and resulting curriculum improvements and deliverables
    • Monitors changes in statutory and regulatory training requirements to forecast training needs and ensure appropriate measures are implemented
    • Research cost-effective training solutions and creates training guidelines for modern technologies, navigational, cargo, and planned maintenance and other software programs
    • Provides regular status reports based on statistics, metrics, ROI, and project and development results

    Position Description:

    The Recruitment Officer manages the full cycle recruitment of seafarers to attract competent, qualified candidates to join our company.  This position works closely with other recruitment team members, hiring managers, and regional crewing offices

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Manages, monitors, and measures the performance of all candidates, and institutes managing the trade tests, Manning Partners and maintains good working relationships. Supports strategic measures to improve overall performance of the team and manning partners, institutes. Retention calls to employees.
    • Leverages online recruiting resources including our applicant tracking system and social media to identify and recruit the very best candidates. Stays informed of trends and innovative recruiting techniques in order to be competitive in latest recruiting practices.
    • Prepares management reports on recruiting activities.

    Requirements:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Communications, Marketing, or related discipline required.
    • Minimum three to five years’ experience in recruiting preferably in the Marine industry
    • Knowledge and extensive past use of a server-based applicant tracking system
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style
    • Experience in “new wave” sourcing including knowledge of social media networks, Twitter, Linked In, Facebook etc.

     Position Description:   

    The Personnel Officer manages communications between management offices and sea staff, and coordinates with global port agents to ensure that crew on-boarding and off-boarding arrangements are performed efficiently in cost-effective ports.

    This position works with the assistant personnel officer and crewing assistants to ensure that ‘fit to travel’ requirements are achieved and completed before sea staff is dispatched to company-managed vessels.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS).  In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Ensures timely completion of required activities outlined in the Competence Development Plan (CDP) before sea staff are dispatched, schedules sea staff pre-joining briefings, and advises all parties with follow-up reports
    • Ensures logistics of sea staff and supernumeraries joining and off-signing are carried out promptly and communicated to agents, vessel, and others as required Works with the assistant personnel officer and crewing assistant to ensure that all crew relief nominations have valid documentation and met all visa requirements; also escalates pertinent concerns and issues onboard to relevant senior manager as required.
    • Communicates with vessels and provides timely responses where possible;
    • Arranges and reviews flag state documentation status of sea staff, ensuring compliance at all times; also applies for flag state dispensation where required
    • Approves travel expenses and other vendor bills as applicable for officers joining or signing-off and their supernumeraries (escalates exceptions to policy or costs which exceed signing authority)
    • Prepares management reports where required
    • Performs other duties as required

    Requirements:

    • Graduate in any stream (three years university or equivalent)
    • Minimum of three years of working experience in a shipping company, at least two of those years as an assistant personnel officer
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

    The Assistant Personnel Officer ensures that seafarers complete all necessary activities and possess all valid documentation before they join company-managed vessels. This position also liaises with company-appointed manning agents to coordinate documentation, arrange visa applications, and closely monitors the status of seafarer applications.

    • Helps personnel officer prepare all necessary joining documentations (such as Seafarers Employment Agreement (SEA), letter to master, MARPOL declaration, and on board complaints procedure contacts and acknowledgement), supernumerary documents, and travel insurance
    • Ensures that all travel visas for seafarers and roving superintendents are kept valid, including US C1/D visa, Australian MCV visa, Schengen visa, Chinese visa, and Canadian visa (for senior officers)
    • Authenticates and verifies seafarer Certificate of Competency (COC) from issuing authorities.Ensures that all necessary flag state documentation is valid and dispatched to seafarers
    • Arranges Pre-Employment Medical Examinations (PEME) for seafarers through company-approved and -nominated clinics; forwards medical certificates and reports to assistant personnel superintendent for review and approval
    • Issues seafarer working gear (such as boiler suits and other safety gear)
    • Prepares courier packages for manning agents which contain all joining documents and liaises with manning agents to ensure the joining documents are completed within timelines, and that copies of confirmation are received
    • Confirms that all seafarer documents are scanned and uploaded into the company’s crew management software
    • Ensures all director general shipping reports are prepared and uploaded on time on the director general site
    • Acts as a back-up for the assistant personnel officer and helps with team deliverables
    • Performs out-of-office duties for visa application, banking, and other crew-related procedures
    • Provides weekly updates concerning the status of visa applications
    • Acts as a backup for the personnel officer, and assists with team deliverables.

    Position Description:
    The Personnel Manager is responsible for the effective staffing of assigned vessels in compliance with Flag, Class, and other mandatory or prescribed requirements as they relate to fleet personnel. This position works with other departments to ensure competency, supports engagement and retention of sea staff, and manages assigned fleet personnel group of shore employees.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Is familiar with the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy (PL-005), and understands the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policies, they understand their duty to report any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to their manager or members of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) either directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelines
    • Works with the Global Talent Acquisition (GTA) team to select qualified and highly competent officers (and crew) for the company’s vessels. Conducts selection interviews and advises the GTA Manager of staffing needs
    • Approves assignment of officers to vessels as recommended by the team’s planners. Oversees onboarding and sign-off of ship staff and manages any issues or exceptions to company policy regarding ship assignment
    • Develops strong working relationships with officers. Evaluates and reports on ship personnel and resolves or brings forward any disciplinary/performance issues for assigned vessels. Conducts briefings and de-briefings
    • In cooperation with the Fleet Superintendent, addresses concerns and grievances of ship staff on assigned vessels. Monitors emails and ensures timely response to communication received from vessels and officers on leave
    • Supports the Seaspan Management System and ensures compliance and that non-conformities are addressed and appropriate action taken
    • Identifies training needs of ship staff, assesses, and makes recommendations regarding promotion, and participates in Officer Forums and roadshows
    • Communicates expectations to direct reports, manages performance and provides leadership and support to team members
    • Works with Fleet Team, Training, Marine Services, Financial Reporting and other teams to ensure deliverables are met and provides guidance and support
    • Performs other duties as required.

     

    Requirements:

    • Marine Engineer or Master (Class 1) with a minimum of three years’ experience sailing at that rank on deep sea vessels
    • External candidates must have a minimum of two years’ experience as a Personnel Manager or similar
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, and Excel)
    • Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
    • Sound organizational and planning skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and good writing style.

    Additional Desired Qualifications:

    • Containership experience with panamax size ships

    Position Description:

    Reporting to the Team Lead, Data and Analytics, the Power Apps Developer is responsible to develop and support ongoing operations, solution delivery and transformation project activities related to Power Platform (Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate), SharePoint Online, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 (including CRM). Additionally, this role will be responsible for maintaining security and compliance standards, adhering to data governance, preparation of documentation and supporting critical initiatives pertaining to the Power Platform. This role will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to ensure client satisfaction with both operational and project-related issues.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Execute on the overall administration and support of Seaspan’s Power Platform environments, including maintaining environment health and functionality, troubleshooting issues, provisioning access as required, problem management, account management, and monitoring.
    • Maintain a deep and current understanding of end user facing cloud technologies and collaboration tools including M365, CRM Dynamics, Power Apps, Power Platform, Power BI, Dataverse and others.
    • Develop new solutions using Model driven or Canvas driven applications, as required.
    • Develop integrations between various data sources using available tools, including writing queries, triggers and stored procedures as needed.

    Position Description: 

    The Business Transformation Analyst works with the Business Transformation Team to drive overall business transformation and process improvement in the organization. Using process improvement and project management techniques, this position analyzes and maps the current processes, defines, and maps the improved processes by embracing a collaborative approach. This further includes developing process simplification, system automation and digitalization. This position may be needed to work closely with internal and external business contacts while keeping strict confidentiality.

    Job Responsibilities: 

    • Works with cross-functional business stakeholders to develop and support Business / Digital strategies and plans.
    • Specialize in development of business cases, stakeholder analysis, process excellence initiatives, use case development, business value analysis and information system strategic planning.
    • Gathers and analyzes data for studies to prove the economic and technical feasibility of proposed solutions.
    • Supports development of Seaspan's Knowledge Management System by mapping, analyzing, and re-engineering business processes around simplification and technology enablement.
    • Implement change management techniques for sustainable execution of initiatives and ensure business benefits are tracked post-implementation.
    • Engages with internal and external contacts for benchmarking and analysis projects involving operational and financial performance.

    Requirements: 

     

    • 3+ years of experience with Business Analysis.
    • Experience on Transformation, Process improvement or Project management roles.
    • Experience with process analysis, process mapping, business case development or strategy planning and execution.
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), project management tools.
    • Executive-level communication and presentation skills
    • Sound organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task

  • Tax Manager

    Position Description: 

    The Tax Manager is an integral part of our overall financial reporting team, and will have significant involvement in tax compliance, tax provisions, dealing with tax authorities’ information requests, including direct and indirect tax. The Tax Manager will also be required to support significant tax planning projects and carry out technical tax research.

    Job Responsibilities: 

    • Owns the end-to-end tax compliance process in relation to tax obligations and reporting related to all Seaspan Corporation entities
    • Responsible for the tax compliance activities in various jurisdictions – including US, UK, Canada, Hong Kong, and other international jurisdictions
    • Manages and reviews foreign estimated income tax and extension payments
    • Under the guidance of the Head of Tax, reviews and prepares documentation to support the tax implications for significant taxable transactions in all relevant jurisdictions
    • Researches and makes recommendations on the tax effect and implications of international business initiatives, contemplated transactions and business proposals
    • Manages US shareholder reporting requirements, e.g., form 8397 filings
    • Monitors and ensures compliance with Sec. 883 of the Internal Revenue Code
    • Manages foreign income tax audits
    • Assists with tax related audit and controversy matters
    • Partnering with Internal Audit, develops, documents and ensures adequate tax controls are implemented
    • Manages the tax balance sheet account review and reconciliation process
    • Develops, implements, and streamlines tax compliance processes
    • Drives and implements changes required to tax compliance processes as a result of changes to tax legislation – domestic tax, international tax, and indirect tax
    • Identify cash tax savings opportunities
    • Manages the tax calendar for financial reporting and all relevant jurisdictions
    • Manages tax planning initiatives and transfer pricing planning
    • Implements and monitors transfer plan

    Requirements: 

    • Degree in Business/Accounting from a recognized institution
    • Accounting Designation (CPA) and completion of In-Depth Tax
    • Minimum 8 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 specialized in a Tax function
    • Strong working knowledge of Canadian, US, and international tax
    • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel
    • Familiar with financial systems software
