Seaspan Ship Management Ltd, managers of the container vessel MV Espirito Santo Express (IMO: 9793923), confirms that a fire occurred onboard while the vessel was en route to Santos, Brazil on 15 October 2026. Smoke, and subsequently fire, was observed emanating from cargo located in the cargo bay area, forward of the accommodation block.
We can confirm that all crew members are safe and accounted for. The safety and well-being of our crew remain our highest priority.
Charterers and all relevant maritime, flag state, coastal, and search-and-rescue authorities were immediately notified. Seaspan is coordinating closely with the appropriate authorities and response agencies, and active measures are underway to stabilize the vessel with onsite firefighting operations.
An investigation into the cause of the incident will be conducted in full cooperation with all relevant authorities.
